willfs -> Deppression and my career (6/18/2008 8:40:37 PM)

I have struggled with depression, sometimes to a severe degree, for most of my life. One job, I just started crying and could not stop because of all of the stress at work. My pscychiatrist and my boss reccommended I resign from my current position and take a lower paying (poverty level) less stressful job assignment. I changed employers. During that time I was miserable at my job. My therapist suggested I get a new job. Well, I resigned from my old job before I had to renew a year long contract. My supervisor really wanted me back but I told him that I didn't want to go back, even if he payed me double. I have been doing temporary work for awhile but that is running out. I keep trying to find some career that will excite me but I havn't had a lot of luck. I pray about it all the time but things seem to get worse. I don't really want to do anything and life just doesn't seem that fun. It may be my deprression that keeps me from finding a job I want. It may be that I havn't found a career that fits me. I went into my old career just because it made the most sense but I didn't really want to that badly. Who knows what I will do now.

I pray that God would lead you to the perfect job fit...
Have you ever read the best selling book...."What Should I do with My Life?" by Po Bronson...an interesting read.
should help you see how other people found their calling in unusual ways...i.e. "the Pittsburgh Lawyer who decided to become a trucker so he could savor the moment and be closer to his son"
Take a slow glance thru it--- in a local bookstore...
God Bless you, and may the Lord send you to the right career for you, alone...
IN Jesus Name, amen

Willifs....Whatever we do, do it as unto the Lord, even if it is a job we dislike.

When we consider it a privilage to work, and believe that employment is a blessing from God, then we may view any job as an opportunity to serve the Lord as we serve others in our work place.

No where in God's word does it tell us that we are to have "fun" at our jobs. If we thought of our jobs as a ministry each day, maybe we would work at being the best we can for God's glory, not just to fuel our paychecks.

I'm reminded that my husband employed people to labor in contruction. He hired them because they proclaimed to be hard workers, that would show up on time and be willing to learn and work hard at any assignment given them. And those who were found idle (or lazy) were let go.
One worker stood out. He knew the Lord Jesus. He would praise the Lord through his work day. He never complained, even though he had problems at home. He would ask my husband what he would have him do, no job was too hard (even if it was) and he would do it. He was older than most of his other employees, but content. I know the Lord wants us to be content in all things. And this man was. I can't imagine hard labor to be fun, year after year, but he was content with it. Before, he worked for us, he was a missionary in Africa and had many stories of hardship and blessings. Maybe God used that time to make him appreciate what the Lord has blessed him with, including his employment.

I'm truly sorry for your depression, I've been there, too. I pray the Lord will be your stronghold through your time of uncertainty in the choice of careers. I pray the Lord will make it obvious to you, which job selection he has in mind for you. Also, I pray he will help you out of the pit of fear, and uncertainty and doubt...and that you will find freedom from the shadow of despair each and every day. In Jesus name.

This is my prayer as well.

Willfs God has a plan for everyone. Sometimes you need to be open to what it is. I dont think God intends for anyone to work at a job that makes them miserable, unless there is something to be learned, and in any case as mentioned before you always owe your employer your best. I would be thankful for any job that had a steady paycheck, as would some other people here on the forum. But sometimes, what does not look fun, or fulfilling, can be, if you open yourself up to Gods leading. Trust me on this one. I will continue to pray for you.

Tim

praying that God will meet your needs by providing just the right position for you. His burden is light.
