Edited after I read that we could distribute the 15 points however we wished with the provision that everyone gets at least one point.

Ms. Judy and Donna didn't read that.

I can't get on to them for that because it took me a while to see it too!

Nope. The OP did not specify that every group had to get a point. It was only suggestion in post #6 ("maybe we should require"). I'm leaving my post as posted! Stubborn, huh?

But it was the person setting the rules who changed them...

(And I changed mine in accordance with the way he wants to do it.)

No one probably cares, but I think the points should remain 5,4,3,2,1. Consistency is important.

1. Greater Vision (5)
2. Booth Brothers (4)
3. Mark Trammell Trio (3)
4. Jeff and Sherri Easter (2)
5. Talley Trio (1)

I agree. It is interesting to see how everyone ranks the groups. If we are only going to give points to our first and second place groups we may as well just list our top group as we have done in other threads in the past. But that is just my opinion and as Kerrlaw says no one probably cares.

I know a lot of people are really big fans of a couple of groups rather than the entire spectrum of Southern Gospel, and that is certainly there right. I'm just blessed to like almost every group out there to some degree. Or maybe it is a curse instead of a blessing...that's why I have over 1,500 CDs, and I'm running out of space to store them and out of money to support my habit.

I too wish Mike and Kelly Bowling would have made the top 5 list. I also wish Three Bridges had made the list (or maybe I should say Poet Voices since 2/3 of the Three Bridges I like is now with Poet Voices and I have yet to see or hear the new Three Bridges).

Things seem to be getting a little out of hand. My fault, I guess when you start something you need to set ground rules. Folks, this all for fun. My intent of doing this thread the way it was done was to see how other individuals rank certain artists, not to turn it into a competition of my favorite group is better than your favorite group.

If I could add a group to the list - it would be the Whisnants and they would definitely get a high rating from me. With the current list - I would give all the "points" to one group IF that were in the "rules. I will however play by the rules......

5 points - Mark Trammell Trio
4 points - Booth Brothers
3 points - Greater Vision
2 points - Talley Trio
1 point - Jeff and Sheri Easter

Ok, this is easy, except that every group is supposed to get 1 point and I don't consider the Tally Trio as being "Southern Gospel". I would call them contemporary or Christian Rock which in my humble opinion means they shouldn't even be listed. Even so........

1. Greater Vision 4.5 points
2. Mark Trammel Trio 4 points
3. Booth Brothers 3.5 points
4. Jeff and Sheri Easter 2 points
5. Tally Rock Band 1 point (by default)

Wow! I agree that the Talley Trio have a more contemporary sound than the other 4 groups listed here (although the Booth Brothers have a couple of songs that lean a little to the contemporary side as well), but I sure don't think of them as Christian rock. However, I don't listen to Christian rock, so I'm not too sure what it sounds like.

This is what I like about these forums. We can all have different tastes, yet still love the same music. This is what makes it interesting to me.

Now that is my kind of lady...I started to do that but I knew with my avatar and screenname it would be just too obvious my bias!!! I like the others nominated too!

Obviously the Singing News and southern gospel fans do, that's why they are finalists for the award.

If we go down that road (which we shouldn't), we might eliminate Jeff and Sherri as being country artists.
