Is Miasma gone? I haven't seen her for a while, so I didn't know. Does anyone know? I miss her. I really enjoyed her unique insights.

She used to be in singles a lot, but even then I noticed that sometimes she'd be mysteriously gone for a while then come back again.

<shrugs>

I think she's just been in other forums than women's/singles. I'm pretty sure she was in finance a while ago.

She last logged in on the 18th which was Wednesday. HERE she says she doesn't come here on a regular basis anymore.

I think she's poking in once a week or so, but not always posting. I miss her, too.

Wow. I was thinking about her yesterday, missing her, then I just saw this thread. She always amazes me in one way or another.

I miss her too, although think half the time her posts were so esoteric that I couldn't understand them, at least in singles. (That kind of esoteric is good though.)

She recently started a thread in Finances about amending old tax returns, so she *is* still floating around ... eveen if she is taking a break from her 'regular' threads.

Lord have mercy, y'all are too kind. I really didn't believe this thread existed. But here it is. And here I am, to let y'all know where I went:

I threw up my hands in disgust, shook my head with sadness, and walked away.

The cult of Christian consumerism - Christianity, despite what the ads on this site (and elsewhere) try to tell you, is not a commodity.

The chosen ignorance, whether theological, cultural, or otherwise.

The abjectly self-centered "I want what I want, I don't care what facts say/prove/show" attitude of posts.

Or the fear. The fear of perhaps fewer people at church "liking" you, if you stopped ___. Or the fear of admitting failure. The fear of change.

All the stuff they pump into the meat produced for human consumption in this country, it's making us sick. The chemicals in our "beauty" products. The stuff in food. High fructose corn syrup is bad.

People seem so scared to admit that the status quo - what the tv says - is flat out wrong.

Eat well, live well. Think well, live well. Take a stand. Make a difference in your quality of life.

The chauvinism and misogyny going unchecked.

The double standards of the site, and the favouriteism I've seen grow, over the years.

The stupid threads, over and over and over. Tattoos. Secular music. Yoga.

Constant disbelief at the ludicrous, unlogical, unintelligent, unfounded opinions foisted as fact, the unwillingness to investigate one's personal beliefs in the name of truth...it just got too much for me.

I like discussion. I like to talk about things I don't know about, or don't feel the same about, with people who can show me things I didn't know, and present their side. Then I weigh the evidence, honestly and sincerely, and go from there.

I don't yell at people and get huffy and indignant, when they don't agree with me. Or insult them, if they post a link to something I don't agree with.

It ended up all my replies to threads were GET A LIFE or ARE YOU NOT PAYING ATTENTION TO ANYTHING, AT ALL, GOING ON IN THE WORLD OUTSIDE YOUR TINY, TINY MIDDLE CLASS AMERICAN SUBURBAN BUBBLE? YOU'RE AN IDIOT AND/OR AN EMBARRASSMENT TO HUMANITY, NOT TO MENTION CHRISTIANITY.

My eyeballs were getting sore from constantly .

So I left.

ETA:

Anytime you want me to pop in, or you're curious what I think, though, feel free to email me! PM me, etc.

I just can't subject myself to daily bouts of "What planet does this person live on???" like I used to...I'll probably keep coming back to this thread, though, just to re-read it on "bad days."

Maybe print it out and tape it to my wall.

Oh, Mia's Mom. I had no idea this stuff was happening to you.

I am about as hard-nose and opinionated as they come, but there are places I don't go here and threads I (usually) quietly drop out of.

Well, fact is that we have been missing you. To see your name here was a personal boost for me. Thank you.

Maybe part of the problem is that some of us just don't say "Thank you!" enough to those we appreciate, the ones who are just plain cute, the ones who make us smile, the ones who make such intelligent chat, the ones who simply lift the moment. Maybe it is too easy to criticise instead, or think negatively -- without even thinking.

Mia- I have not always agreed with your opinion, but I have always respected you. I hope that I have never treated you in a way that was anything less than respectful. If I have, I'm asking for your forgiveness.

What? Are you saying there are closed-minded people that post here?

Seems I was having that conversation with someone just this afternoon.

Seriously, you are missed around here. I was thinking yesterday that I hadn't seen you around in a while.

And in case you didn't get that, I WILL TYPE IT IN LARGE BOLDED LETTERS, because we all know that makes it make more sense.

Someone had to do it ...

I don't think Miasma is the only one who feels that way. I have days when I don't want to bother logging on because of some of the conversations, but then I think "You know, here are some pretty cool people here ... the s won't keep me away"

Anyone else around here think that Miasma does not match her name? So I think of her as having a little girl with a glorious flounce of curly, shining black har, big brown eyes, rosy cheeks, who wears Mary Janes without socks and a black jumper covered with tiny red flowers with rickrack at the pockets, no blouse, and she loves to run in a field and blow the dandelions.

Well, I always read the name with the first a as a short vowel--mi-as-ma, and I thought it was a play on her real name. I never thought of mia's ma, until I read your post. But I know she has no children, so when I read your post (not the one just above, but upthread a couple), I thought maybe she had a cat named Mia(she says she likes cats on her profile). Anyway, miasma, now that you're here, could you explain your user name? And are you willing to tell us your real name? If not, that's fine, I just wondered. And didn't you change to wabi sabi for a while?

I pronounced it that way for a while too. It wasn't until about a year or so that I realized it could also be Mia's ma.

It's a word. Look it up.

P.S. I don't think her handle matches her, either.

I can understand your disgust, Miasma. The thing is that you do help open our eyes to help us think of things differently and clean the junk that we accept without question out of our own lives. We're the ones losing out when you don't post. I'm really sorry posters have been so rude to you. If you will point them out, I'll take to singing hymns of peace and unity at them.

We are on in the bond of love. We have joined our spirits with the Spirit of God, we are on in the bond of love.
