We got a bit sidetracked there - thanks for clarifying and bringing it back on point. Personally, I don't find the reference to his race all that bad. He is different. He's got a funky name, a funky upbringing, and a different background than what we're used to. He'd be stupid not to acknowledge that he's different. The race bit was a small reference within a larger context acknowledging all the differences and the opinion that folks will latch on to those unjustifiably to make some attacks. I'd probably not say it that way, but to some degree it's accurate. The cheap "Obama is a closet muslim" shots are one example of how people latch onto differences and try to exploit them inappropriately. I'd also be willing to allow for the fact that some people will see that as race-baiting and be offended. It doesn't strike me that way, but I can understand how it might for some.

It's another interesting issue of point of view. It would not be uncommon for a black person to see much of went on in that church as acceptable from within a social justice framework of faith. Christ himself had a strong social justice orientation as did much of the OT. White people would be far less likely to see it that way. While we probably disagree on the extent to which his membership there is a problem, I can certainly agree that it's an issue worth exploring and discussing.

Rosie: I'm sorry if I thought you were calling me a racist, you just attacked pretty fast with your comments. Not sure what you mean by my 1st and 2nd statements didn't have anything to do with each other, as I am not sure I meant for them to, but anyway. See how words can be misconstrued? You came down pretty hard on me for simply being from the south...as if because I'm from the south I can't possibly have a non-racist-influenced perspective. I mentioned nothing about where I cam from, but you took my location from my avatar and made an assumption based on that. How is that any different from judging someone based on skin color. My piano teacher was a black man, if it matters to you.... And furthermore, I don't think anyone is saying that racism doesn't exist. There are all sorts of bigotry besides racisim. People have pre-conceived notions about overweight people, bald people, people with deformities, Christians, Muslims, Jews, poor, rich....no matter what the situation, there are ignorant people who find it easier to judge someone based on superficial things than on the heart of the person. I think the major point with this idea is that we have to be bigger than bigotry. We have to supercede it or we become it. If someone insults you and you insult them back, you've stooped to the same level of the moron who insulted you to start with. Didn't Jesus even say that if someone strikes your cheek, you should turn the other? We have to take personal accountability for our own actions and hold others accountable for theirs.

Ok, earthless, where can I move this question to? Because I do have some other questions. I looked in the feedback section a couple of days ago. I'll keep looking.

I apologize if I got sidetracked with my comments in response to Rosie...I started out talking about Barack and it just went a different direction. I get a little offended when people start making blanket jugments...or seem to. My point was, however, that if you keep bringing stuff up, it will keep living. If you let it die, it will die. If he doesn't want this election to be about race, but rather about his platform (which I don't see being very secure, but whatever), then he needs to craft his words carefully. When he's not been scripted, his true thoughts come out. We need to pay attention to that in ALL of the candidates, not just Barack. Of course he's a different color than the rest of the American presidents have been...and it would be stupid to deny that! However, I think the question is, should it or does it matter in this election. If people vote for him JUST because he's black or mulatto or whatever, then that's not a very good reason to vote for anybody, just like voting for Hillary because she was a woman if there were a better candidate would have been wrong. I knew people who voted for Bill Clinton justbecause they thought he was cute. That's disturbing!

The man just flat out lies, does that not bother anyone? he said before he secured the nomination that he would not make it about race. He talks out of both sides of his smooth talking lips. Who knows what he is or not, if he would quit lying maybe people would get over thier doubts about who, and what he is. quote:

The whole thing is actually pretty insulting to the general public though. Obama seems to think that a lot of people would be afraid of him because he has a "funny name" and "he's black"? You would have a point about being insulted if it weren't for the fact that many people (especially some on these boards) still believe that he's a muslim or that he will somehow subjugate the white race if he becomes president. It's along the same lines as those who believe he will somehow single-handedly eradicate our democratic system and replace it with socialism or marxism. Unfortunately, some people will believe whatever they hear or are told and won't be convinced by the facts.

We are never gonna know him, he himself doesnt know WHO he is. I think he will be a good president for 42 months. Good as in the economy will smooth out for awhile, well all get a false sense of everything is ok.

To really put this discussion back on topic: I have an Aunt who grew up and lived in Cuba during the revolution period. She was in her 20's when pre-revolution Castro began making his speeches. She (a Democrat) says that the way Obama talks, reminds her of Castro. He is charismatic and knows how to say the right things to those who are unwilling to slice and dice his words. 2 Tim 3:13

Sorry, tracy! I truly could not resist. BHL, He is charismatic as long as he does not have to speak on his own. He is clueless.

I think Obama played the race card to try to bait Republicans into reacting to his mention of race. If they do respond, then he can cry "foul." -Dave

Get serious. Fox is far and away better and more fair than ABC, CBS, CNN, NBC, PBS, etc. Can't you libs get past Fox News and George Bush? -Dave quote:

No, they can't because FOX News is just about the only mainstream television news broadcast that even leans towards the Conservative view. If they give up FOX News then what is there to complain about?
