Brandy, she is BEAUTIFUL!!! Look at all that gorgeous HAIR!!!

You look great, too, mama! (I apparently don't have link skills because I only got to one picture, but it's a good one so thanks for sharing it!!)

She is just such a doll.....(I hear ya on the 5 days of labor thing.)

It's Isabel (bel, not belle)...I thought so but it was typed otherwise earlier so I just assumed it was the "new way". I will now go back to spelling her name the correct way.

Good nurser?
Good baby?
She's having a good hair day? (Seriously, girl, you're going to be buying hair product for her before you know it.)

What a gem. I am so happy for you ten times over!

Love,
Jeanie

Jeanie --

I had seen her hair on the u/s last week but ya, WOW to hair. It's exactly like me though when I was born. She even came out the same, with a hand near her face. Too cute. She has the BIGGEST feet and LONGEST toes I've ever seen in proportion to her body size. it's adorable.

Good nurser on one side. Good baby but does go from 0 to 60 in the hunger dept. which I was assured is normal. Had a GREAT conversation or two with the consultant there at the hosp and she gave me such great advice on dealing with birth trauma issues.

Since this is about births I think it fits here and its a great tool:

Tell your child right after birth about their birth. It sounded weird at first, but I went with it and listened to a couple of examples that worked with her and other parents/babies.
One baby would NOT latch and had the maddest face with bunched up fists. Mom had a rough delivery, basically everything that could go wrong and end up with a C section did, but she stopped just short of the Csection. So the LC had dad holding baby and was telling them about this technique she had JUST learned the day before.. She kept talking to mom about nursing and how to get things going and dad took kiddo and walked around and told her her story, how much they wanted a baby, how much they loved the pregnancy and then how hard delivery was on them all. He started to apologize for how rough it was on her (the baby) and how they understood her anger and they asked that she work with them and understand they were learning too.

LC said you could see the expression on baby change, relaxed and hands came away from face. LC gave baby to mom and she went STRAIGHT for nipple and latched and fed and all was well with mom and dad crying over the change.

SO after our ordeal I did it, I told her about her story and asked her to forgive me for any pain caused by her delivery, we were spine to spine for all but actual delivery. I ask that she help us as we stumble through all this stuff and please be patient with us. I talked soo much to her with her just staring right at me the whole time. Next time we went to nurse she totally connected with it and it was a success.

I've never been a fan of this type of 'therapy' but it makes soo much sense to me, I'm not the only one recuperating from this delivery, so is this little precious baby who had no control over things. It really helped me connect to her that much more. Jeremy told her his side of things later and it was just a great moment to watch.

She so content right now with Jeremy and he's in heaven. This is awesome.

Brandy,

That's a beautiful story. We talked to Adam and he was also at rapt attention (still is a lot of the time!) but we didn't tell him his story. Maybe I'll do that when I nurse him in a few...

Oh, your little one is just so adorable. All these teeny little ones around here -- honestly, our baby is "only" 102 days old (haha, I looked it up) but he seems so BIG compared to all these newborns. It really is true what everyone says: they grow so fast.

God bless you and Jeremy and this little baby Isabel. Are you eating well? Getting some sleep?

We were all praying for you, Brandy. You were really covered in prayer here.

G'night, sweet mama!

Love
Jeanie

Justice Emery was born at 2:41 pm. 8 lb 6 oz and 20" long.

Paul sounded very proud and said everything went well. :D

Congrats, Sarah and Paul!!!!! Welcome, Justice!!

I told her that he'd be born on the 25th!

ok....finally got the whole experience typed out, so here is how it all went......

Tuesday:
8pm...got to the hospital, got all set up (iv, paperwork, etc).
When the nurse couldn't find a good vein for the iv she called the anesthesiologist to come and do it. It was THE BEST iv I have ever had...no bruising even, no swelling, only one stick. Hurt like *you know what* but it always does.
They checked me and I was dilated to about 3cm, 40-50% effaced, and his head was about -1 station. Wasn't very conducive to labor starting good though, so they did a cervadyl tampon overnight. It had to stay in for 12 hours. I didn’t get much sleep though because of the horrid bed they had (it was the worst I have ever been in!!!). Also the cervadyl was of course causing cont’x to kind of start (not painful, just there and consistent) and baby didn’t like that too much so he was moving ALL night long and making me nauseous. L-O-N-G night.

The CNM on call was very easy going and was willing to do a lot with what we wanted (that we had previously been told we couldn’t do/have)…so that was great. She was trumped a few times by the circumstances and the dr on call though. He wasn’t supposed to be the one delivering, but it ended up being him…I will explain that later on down the time line though. He was a great dr though too…very calming in the way he kept things going, even in harried situations. ..so it worked out to be a very good experience.

Wednesday:
10am…they took out the cervadyl and checked. Not really dilated any more then the night before, but much more ready for labor, so the meds did their job well!!!

10:30am…they got things started with the pit drip. From past experience we didn’t expect it to do much of anything, but to our shock it was great and worked. Things picked up pretty fast and were not that bad but effective.

1:20pm…things were getting painful, so they checked again…not much…. About 5cm, still 50% effaced, but very soft. They called anesthesia to come for the epidural (they were going to break my water about 2 and they wanted me more comfortable before that since it works better if mom is not in pain when they do that.

1:40pm…got the epidural (what a loved profession to go into….I swear he is the most loved person in the hospital!!!!)

2:10pm…the dr authorized that I was good enough to break my water now, but he had a sinking feeling about the cord being in the way. He said he would prefer for the CNM to still do it but he stayed in the room from that point on just in case….again cause of his feeling. He didn’t want her to break it in a gush though…just a little so that if anything was wrong they could still have enough time to intervene without it being a c-section. I was very grateful that he went with his gut feeling on that one.
I was dilated to 6cm now and still about 50% effaced.

2:37pm…everything was going along good…but one contraction in particular caused more fluid to gush out and immediately baby’s heart rate dropped from 150’s to about 40’s. So immediately the dr’s gut feeling paid off, and he quickly got up (yet in a calm state of mind) started calling for everyone to do what they needed to do. CNM checked me while he got gloved up, I was at 8cm. He wasn’t waiting though, so they had me start pushing then to get the baby out immediately. It took a few pushes (three or so) for the bed to be in the right position for me to actually be able to push, and he was out pretty much right after that.

2:41pm…Justice Emery was born!!!! They weren’t quite ready for him to be there quite yet, so they couldn’t find the suction bulb for about a minute or so. Once they found it the dr clipped the cord long and handed him off for them to work on though. Paul got to cut the remainder of the cord off later at the table/warmer…but in the moment it wasn’t really timely for him to do it because of the circumstances. Turned out the cord was wrapped around his neck a few times, so that’s why that last cntx caused his heart rate to drop so dramatically when he descended more.
First and second APGAR scores were great though…both 9. So even in the situation everyone was great and everything worked out wonderfully. I never thought I would ever deliver a baby so easily…esp considering I was only at 8cm when I delivered him (they stretched me to 10, and I tore a little).

he was 8lb 8.6oz and 20 in long

We were still undecided on the name until hours later though. I thought Justice fit him more, but Paul liked Micah better. After a while though he said the spelling was what he didn’t like (the Biblical spelling J-U-S-T-U-S)….but he liked J-U-S-T-I-C-E…so we decided on Justice Emery!!!!

During the initial iv/pit hook up they overlooked something in my records...I was told that my GBS screening came back negative, but one of the papers showed it as positive....so who knows which one was correct. Anyway, it was overlooked so there were not enough antibiotics pushed through the iv during labor. My dr did order them, and they were given, but because my labor was so quick it "wasn't enough". (the CNM said it was something like 15 minutes shy of being enough time...insane!!!). Anyway because of that they wouldn't release Justice until after he had been there 48 hours....they initially said 36 was the norm, and they would let us go after 24 (because he wasn't our first and we had experience and help at home). It was really tiring to keep getting told different times we would get to go. Finally the pediatrician said that IF she could get the clinic to agree then she would release him at 36 hours, but she couldn't get them to agree. So we had to stay the whole 48 hours. The worst part was that they have one room you are in the whole time, so the "bed" was that kind that is made for labor/delivery, not a bed made for comfort at all!!!! It was horrible. I found it a whole lot easier to just sleep sitting up in the chair then being in that stinking bed. Needless to say I didn't get much sleep though. I got woke up at 4am tuesday morning (Paul's alarm going off) and I couldn't get back to sleep that day (wanted to, but couldn't, or could but family came to visit). Then that night at the hospital I was stuck in that bed all night...didn't get much sleep there. Anyway...total sleep from tuesday until last night (so four days) was less then six hours worth if you add all the little naps up together. Last night I slept ok, but still not the best.

pics.....HERE is the whole folder...I haven't gone through them at all to tweak them or organize them...but there they are.
