looking4help -> old items (6/23/2008 10:47:02 PM)

I became a christian a few weeks ago and I was wondering how I should handle items from before. I was also wondering about what I should stop doing on the computer such as fanfiction sites and anime.

Praise God! Welcome to the Family of Faith in Jesus. Probably those activities are not inherently 'evil' though anytime you use your imagination as a creative outlet can lead one to comprise your new obedience. I dunno. I would tread lightly.

Welcome into the family of God! I really mean that!

Is there anyway you can be more specific regarding those "items from before"?

looking4help -> RE: old items (6/24/2008 1:27:45 AM)

I am not sure if I should keep military surplus items, nonpornographic anime and manga, and certain pc games. I also used to read a lot of fanfiction and was wondering how old activities relate to new.

I guess the question is what are these things to you?

Are they things that will draw you away from God and his Word?

If so, give them up. If not, enjoy them in moderation - i.e. make sure they don't take over your life.

I take it the websites you are referring to are not porn sites or sites which promote violence and bad language - then I would echo DaveW's helpful advice.

Enjoy your journey with Jesus - life is never going to be the same again as you learn to submit to His Word (the Bible). You will soon find that His life is not about a set of "Do's" and "Don'ts" but true freedom the more you become submitted to God's will. [;)]

Welcome to the family of Jesus.

Welcome to the adventure of following Christ Jesus.

Over time, you will learn what challenges your walk. What sins are the ones that will catch you.

The answers you seek will come in time. Seek the will of God over everything in your life, read the bible, go to a bible believing church where lives are changed and you are challeneged to grow, and pray.

Pray some more.

Hi Looking4help.....Congratulations on your new life!

I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with fanfiction sites. I'm probably way older than you, too..LOL

Looking4help.... shortly after I received Christ. I got the desire to rid the one thing that took up the most time in my week. This WAS my daily dose of soap opras. I was basically raised on them, and addictied to them for years. I knew Jesus was real in my life...and wanted those stolen hours to now be His...I needed time, to learn and grow.

At the time (brand new in Him) I didn't understand the awesomeness of the Holy Spirit in me. But I'm possitve it was the Spirit of God that convicted me to stop watching them. I used to be a slave to TV soaps. Not only that, they would depict my former life and sinful nature. He knew by watching soaps, I would end up dwelling on my old life, more than him, if I continued watching those soap opras.

Matthew 6:21 says: "Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." What I got done posting...WAS God's first lesson to me, before I ever read this scripture. Isn't He amazing!!! Praise Him!

Let your faith and love for Christ be your guide. If you can have Christ sit with you while you do such things and not feel uncomfortable then you have an answer. The only problem would then be what kind of answer would it be? In the end do what ever glorifies Christ.

SavedByGraceMD -> RE: old items (6/25/2008 7:36:14 PM)

looking4help,

I may have some insight that may help you. I am only an 8 month old in my faith, and I have struggled with my focus at times. My xbox 36o was the main culprit. I would say that anything that you feel takes your focus off of Jesus, and hinders your walk with the Lord, you should get rid of it or bag it up and put it somewhere you can not get at it. Later on you may find that you have no interest in any of that stuff, and only have eyes for the Lord.

As for me, I got rid of all the inappropriate movies, cds, and boxed up my 360. It has helped me keep my focus on Him, which is where it should be. Good luck and may God bless you.

And welcome to the family.

First off welcome to the family of God! As for the things in your life your wondering about geting rid of just get rid of them if you think they are not glorifying to the Lord if they are stumbling stones in your life that will bring you back to your former way of living then get rid of them if not then don't worry about what you don't need to worry about just think of the things today and let tomorrow take care of its own needs.

Welcome! And I love your tag---looking4help. Isn't that what each of us were before Jesus came into our lives? It shows your honesty, truthfulness. Bless you! I'm glad you found the Helper!

And as to your other questions, I, too, am unfamiliar with the specifics of what you are referring to. If they are things that you can easily set aside, do it. If they are too great of a temptation and you feel they are drawing you away from Christ, remove them in a more permanent way. There are lots of things that will change in your life now that Jesus has moved in---but He loves you and is so glad you are now a part of the family. [:)]
