This might sound awful, but I wouldn't want to start fresh! Now... if I could pull any credentials out of my hat, that might be a different thing!

If I could do that- I would love to have a phd in clinical psychology. But I am burnt out from school, having just finished my masters.

I am exactly in the field I want to be in, though (children's mental health), doing jobs I love, making enough to live comfortably.

It's funny, though, because I got here by asking that question... I started with the plan to be a biochemist working either in genetics or virology.... then I had a baby and was led into childcare.

I liked working with the kids, but soon found I have a gift for working with kids with special needs/behavior disorders... so I shifted to psychology/mental health. I wanted to go back into school so I could get better jobs in that field. While in school, though, I found I also have a gift for and really enjoy research...

Now I am a research specialist & a behavior specialist/mobile therapist... So I get the best of both worlds.

I was just doing research for a while but was getting bored... But direct work is SO emotionally draining, I don't think I want to do it full-time... SO I do the research full-time, and the therapy part-time.

I think it is important to regularly take time to re-evaluate what you are doing, what you wish you were doing, and what you would have to do to get there.

I'm most likely going to go into healthcare. It's not uncommon to go back to school as an adult now so if anyone is considering it then don't worry about being older than other people in the class. I'm in IT now but its not something I want to do forever. I've always been interested in health care. Considering nursing. Would like to consider physical therapy but now a lot of places want a masters in physical therapy.

Accounting. I have a math degree, but accounting would've been more... marketable.

Teacher... vo-tech or high school shop class. My wife makes good $$$$$ after 15 years, has summers off, and our income would not be significantly different from where we currently are with me running the family biz. I'd probably still remodel and build on the side, in the summers. But having a regular teacher paycheck without all the stress, and with full benefits, is golden.

I kind of do have the freedom to have a fresh start. After fits and starts in software development and audio production, I'm going down the middle and trying to get into video game sound design.

My degree is in Medical Technology and it's a really cool field and I'd want to stay in it for good, but I've been a stay at home mom for the last two and a half years and I'm wishing I were a teacher now. Almost went through with it and was talked out of it in college while deciding on my major. It would be great to keep the same hours and days as my daughter when she gets into school (she's only 3).

Marriage Counselor....why? Because the need is far greater than I ever imagined, esp. in the church.

Well, since I was supposing I had complete freedom in that the first time, I would do this all over again.

Aerospace Engineering...
Got talked out of the AirForce academy as a teenager...my father was opposed to women in the military...
IF I could go back and be 15 again, I'd set my sights on the Academy...go be a professional "Zoomie"...
Although, my present career, marine (ship) design isn't bad, pays well and can be a lot of fun.

Bzirk - we are on the same page .

You know, in the past few years I've done most of the things I'd always dreamed about doing - from being a performer (singing, dancing, acting), to being a research assistant, seeing what life is like for a college professor, teaching, being a programmer, short term missions (I am so NOT a missionary), being a minister in a church .... And surprisingly, I've discovered that my calling is not too far away from what I've been doing all along. I've been a writer for over 10 years and I've always done some sort of music on the side (mostly church stuff). And I love the Lord and His Word. So, even though I've been really blessed to try lots of different things I was right in the ballpark the whole time and didn't know it. I left my home, went to grad school, totally changed majors, and I've discovered that what I really want to do is continue to write and add some music - but to really take it to the next level - focus a lot more - really gain the expertise I need to do what I feel that God is calling me to do.

I've always been in accounting and if I could start over again, I would like to try to be a lawyer or work within the criminal justice system. Both seem pretty interesting.

Same here, only I'm getting my master's in professional counseling and working towards a mental health counselor license.

I guess I've already had the chance to start anew, and I decided to stay on the same track. This is my dream career. For the past 10 years, I've been wanting to go back to school, but I waited until my son graduated high school. I don't regret the wait. I can travel whenever I want to go to conferences & workshops and play while I'm there.

I too would go into teaching. But not because of the great pay (depending upon where you are the pay is rather pitiful really), or summers off or the great hours. I would love to work in the field of education simply because it would be a great fit for my family. I could have the same hours as my children, for the most part AND it would just be a good fit for me and what I've learned in the years since college are my true strengths. A speech therapy is up there too as long as it was in a school setting.

Blessings,

Garsy

Garsy, maybe someday you can go back to school and pursue that. From what I've read about your involvement in your kids school, I think you'd make a wonderful teacher.
