Oh Kylie, sorry you are so sick. That is the nature of the beast though. They get sick, then we get it. But I don't know about you guys, it is always me and never my DH. Why is that? I know he is gone most of the day, but he is with them at night, AND we share a bed and he still never gets sick. And I eat better than he does.

My exchange student arrives in just over a week and I had to call my kids doc to see if he would take care of my student while he is here. He said he would so that is one major thing down. But now I have to go to three orientations. One for the grade school, one for the middle school, and now that I have one in highschool, I have to go through that one too. I don't know how I am going to make all three, but I have to. Especially the highschool. But at least when Jake gets there in two years, I will have an idea of how things go over there so that is good.

Take care of yourself Kylie!

Still haven't heard about the job. BUT neither has one of the other ladies that applied! She called me this morning to see if I had heard anything yet.

Brian is taking on some additional training on at work for the next month. It's kinda nice really. They can't mandate him to work over his 8 hour shift AND he gets paid a little bit more during the training! They can still however mandate him to work on weekends.

Tomorrow is the big day here. I'm kinda excited really. Time to get back to a routine!!!

Blessings,

Garsy

All of my kids start on either a different day or a different time. I have no clue how I am going to do the first day of school. First, Kali starts at 8:30. Then I think Kay starts at 12:30 but that is a day for parents to stay. I might just leave her there since she has been in preschool for the last two years and is used to that type of environment. Then Jake starts sometime in the afternoon that same day. My exchange student officially starts the following day, but with him being new and not knowing the school, I am not sure if they are going to require him to be there for the freshman orientation day. The principal was not too happy about taking him and I had to push the issue very hard and pretty much demand that he approve this so I really don't want to make anymore waves. I like to pick my battles wisely. So I have a call into the guidance office to make an appointment with a counselor first thing, but they have not yet called me back so I don't know if they are following the principal's lead, or just that busy. I did say that I need to make an appointment for him so he can get his schedule and get all school fees paid and all of that.

Well all my kids are off to school now.

Ty's been at school since 10 til 8 this morning and the little guys are just now getting off the bus at their school. I was so tempted to go and get that picture but I didn't.

And I'm thinking I didn't get the job. Oh well.

I just realized why I spend so much time at school volunteering! It's simply because it's TOO quiet around my house!

Blessings,

Garsy

I hope this doesn't come out wrong but could it be that if you didn't get the job is because they know you will do the work for free? I don't know if that is true but it's something I thought about. I'm really sorry though. :(

Kathy, I totally understand what you are saying because some schools are like that, but Garcy, if you haven't heard either way, then I wouldn't get discouraged yet. Plus there are alot of politics that go on. If someone who applies knows someone and you know. That happened to me once.

We had a small position open in our school, and I directly asked the principal about it so he knew that I was interested. I had volunteered quite often in the kitchen for various events AND for hot lunch. This was for the lunch program.

I went on vacation, came back and they had hired someone who I didn't even know. I had never seen this woman volunteer for anything and one of the job requirements was that you were "active" in the school, and church. It turned out that someone said to the principal "this person would be good" and that was that.

They did have a deadline on the applications, but the person was hired before that time was up.

I totally get what you are saying Kath. I've had folks tell me that before. I don't think that's the case here tho. The deal here is more likely that someone that already had a previous position that was cut for whatever reason got the job. One of those internal applicants. Like someone who lost their noon monitors position or the lady that did the 4th grade aid position last year. Since I've never had a job through the school - I'm a little lower on the totem pole. And I'm fine with it. One of my biggest regrets now is not getting my degree in teaching so long ago. That would help I'm sure.

Blessings,

Garsy

X's school went into lockdown yesterday. I haven't gotten the full story yet, but apparently it was more related to an incident happening in one of the streets bordering the school than actually at the school and they didn't want to release the kids into a dangerous situation. So parents had to actually physically go into the office and sign their child/children out. I'm not quite sure what they did with children who walk home (and they were the ones they were most concerned about).

J is home again. Yesterday he had an ultrasound on one of his lymph nodes. Doctor has said that if he's still getting feverish today to bring him back in again. Today, both his lymph nodes (under his jaw) are swollen. I'm wondering could it be mumps and just happened to turn up right on the end of him being sick with something else.

Did you vaccinate him against the mumps? We do it here when they are around 15 months or so, and a booster later. It's been a long time so the ages may be off a bit.

Everyone had an excellent day!

Aryn came home and told me that she was extremely happy! The reason - the cranky playground monitor was one that didn't return this year! Honestly, I'm kinda glad about that too. She and I just never saw eye to eye on things. I did find out too that the principal and the guidance counselor are picking up the slack because they had to let so many noon monitors go due to budget cuts. I wouldn't be surprised if they start asking for volunteers to take care of those things before long. That's not a job very many would take on, especially since it was previously a paid position. Maybe once a week or so - but not on a regular basis that's for sure.

Ty apparently needs three ring binders and loose leaf paper and LOTS of it. One binder per class and paper to fill it. I might have to find him one of those slim line 3 hole punches too. Thankfully I was able to come up with all but one binder for him and I may have to buy some more loose leaf paper too.

Blessings,

Garsy

I honestly cannot remember which vaccinations J had (he had all the usual ones, just can't remember what they covered). It's a lot of years since we were dealing with vaccinations. Is mumps one of the ones covered by the triple antigen?

Kylie, hopefully he doesn't have the mumps, but did they test for mono? That will make your lymph nodes get REALLY huge. Kali had it when she was 4 but the first time I took her in, the doc told me she was too young, but after internet research and a trip back when she turned into a balloon, bloodwork confirmed it.

Ok, I need help here. I was told that my exchange student is probably going to have a gift for me and that I should have a gift waiting at home for him. So the suggestion for girls was to bring them a flower to the airport, but for boys, a t-shirt of some kind and a gift card for something they like. I have no clue what this kids likes besides sports. I thought the t-shirt was a great idea and decided that I will get him one that has his school name and logo on it. All of the kids wear their "spirit" clothes and he should have several. This I know from watching the high school kids and Jake's class. They always wear shirts with the school stuff on them. Now I just need to know what kind of gift card to get him if any. I would give him a book but his profile has nothing in it about what he likes to read. He loves art and we do have a great art museum, but we do plan on taking him there so I can't think of anything art related to get him that he won't find at the museum if not something better.

Any suggestions?

I hope J is feeling better Kylie.

I'm bad at gifts Kylie. I'd just go with the t-shirt, and maybe something else I thought would be good for him to have for/at school?

I wish E had gotten her schedule worked out earlier. This week she is trying to work, find someplace to go for school to career, and get signed up for an online college class. I bought her college algebra text from amazon.com this afternoon; I hope it arrives quickly.

Last week we wouldn't let E go to her boyfriend's apt for a movie night with some of his guy friends. He just moved into his own apt. Apparently he took that as a personal insult. I got quite in interesting email. I just have to figure out how to handle things from here. Yuck.

When my youngest began Christian school I had to get a job asap...the silence was more than I could bear. Of course my working is also a great way to be able to pay tuition.

Kylie...I hope that your ds and you feel better quickly!!! I had the mumps when I was age 6. I remember having a great deal of pain from the swelling that went behind my ears and according to my mother I had a very high fever.

If you received the type of e-mail that I assume you did, I would have a hard time controlling my temper when I responded. I don't think boyfriends are supposed to question the judgement of their girlfriends parents...and they should never send questioning, judgemental, or nasty e-mails to the parents. If a "child" wants to speak about their relationship with my "child" they can meet in person.

(Also, a gentleman would not have asked his girlfriend to come to his apartment, unchaperoned, with a group of young men.)

I would just simply tell him that in your family, you don't allow guys and girls to be alone in that way and not to take it personally because the answer would have been no to any guy and if he would rather discuss it further, one way to make you feel more comfortable with him is to see that he can act like an adult and actually talk to you face to face. It is easy to say whatever you want online because you are not facing that person and don't have to worry about their reaction.

I agree Julia. I think you know what kind of email I got. I had emailed him because E told me he was upset. I haven't responded to the latest email yet, because nothing I had to say would have been well received. I may yet after I've had time to think, I don't know. E read the email, but she of course thinks everything is all my fault. Ugh.

How is J doing Kylie?

R will be in school full-time next year. I don't want to think about that. I'm not sure what I'll do then.

I'm around. Just getting some paperwork together so we can start paying down on some of these doctor bills.

I also had to make some phone calls to reschedule dr. appointments so I don't have to pull the kids out of state testing times that are coming up VERY quickly. Indiana kids are kind overtested this school year because they are moving the testing from the fall to the spring - but according to state law and NCLB kids have to be tested every CALENDAR year. The 2nd and 4th graders also do swimming at the middle school so I don't want Ethan and Zoe to miss out on that either. Ethan's got an eye appointment coming up soon September 11th that I've changed 2 or 3 times now, and I had to reschedule an appointment for Ty so he can get an updated tetanus shot in December. Thankfully as of now I don't have to reschedule Aryn's ortho- appointment, unless of course she loses those two teeth before December.

Brian and I went into town today to get Ty his last few things for school. Grand total spent on school supplies? Roughly $70 but that's without my rebates that I still haven't received from Menards. That should be around 11 or 12 dollars there, so my total - not including clothes will be around $60! I don't count shoes or clothes in my back to school shopping since I would buy those anyway even if my kids weren't in school. Ty MAY need a certain calculator still and Aryn MAY need a flash drive. Still my total won't be over $100! AND I still have several things left over to use next year AND to give to Ethan's cub scout pack! And the PTC wanted me to buy the school kits last spring for just 3 of my kids that would have added up to well OVER $125! And I would have had to still go in and buy Ty's stuff! I love it!

Blessings,

Garsy

Dee,

I think you did the right thing too! Around here if you are living in my home OR dependent on your father and I for financial support, You WILL follow my rules. So if the boyfriend is mad at you - so be it. E- is safe and her health and well-being is much more important then what any boyfriend might think or say.

Blessings,

Garsy

I'm around, just not posting much for some reason. I think I'm just getting used to the early hours and don't feel quite myself. And I've been feeling cranky so that is definitely not a good time to post.

Yay to getting a bunch of deals Garsy!
