For real, I'm not washing bottles every day. Washing diapers every day will be bad enough.

They are easy enough to wash and/or sterilize(if you plan on sterilizing, then get some Steri-Steam bags from Medela).

Just want to add that those are great. I use them for my pump parts. We also have a bottle sterilizer that holds them sterile. Havent used it for bottles yet, but its been great to keep my parts clean, since I am super cautious about sterilization due to little man's immune system. It takes about 6 minutes or so to run and will hold them sterile. It IS one more thing on your counter, but we are loving it so far.

We are planning to use the Playtex disposable ones...unless the hospital suggests otherwise. I have two "starter kits" (Thanks EmilyAnn) and really dont plan on buying more, in fact it looks like ALOT. I'll probably leave some at the grandma's houses.

I was wondering what that was, but forgot to ask, lol!

LOL...yup that would be what that was. We ended up buying it when we were staying in a hotel and had no way to clean my parts well. Otherwise we would have just used the dishwasher or steam bags. But since we have it I've used it a TON since then, I love the fact that it holds them sterile. I have multiple sets of parts so I dont have to clean in the middle of the night and can have a "fresh" set as soon as I get in from work.

I don't wash bottles every day, and I don't sterilize either, unless they have just had something like thrush or strep throat. I just rinse until I'm ready to wash and then wash bottles first (I don't have a dishwasher) in hot, hot, hot soapy water. Never had a problem.

Ryanne...wow, starting so soon! I hope you get just the hours you want. Who will be with Gabby?

NicoleAus, I have nothing to add but prayers. I'm sorry things are so hard right now.

Do they recommend bottles are always sterilized for as long as the kid is using them? We put everything in the dishwasher, so it's not a problem here, but does that even make sense once they reach the crawling on the floor/putting the dog in their mouth stage? lol

I'm trying to convince my husband that we need a high efficiency washing machine for these diapers. Really, I just want one and am tired of our ancient machine that stinks (literally). Who knows if I'll even stick with cloth diapering... and if not, then I'll be stuck with a fancy new washer. Oh my, what a shame. He's not convinced quite yet.

Thank you for your prayers. I had an hour nap so my brain is somewhat less fuzzy.
I was saying to Zippy before about how am I meant to get through this, what am I meant to do. Then I answered it myself, love the unloveable, keep loving even though he isn't and doesn't deserve it and I typed those words I realised that's what God does with us each and every day. So I guess, I don't know how but I need to rely on Him to strengthen me and carry me the rest of the way through this mess. I don't know the how of that yet, but yeah I worked that out before, I have to love as christ loves me. I mean I know it, but I didn't "get it" til I was chatting before. So if you have any tips pm or post away!!

That's basically what I was going to say...I quit sterilizing bottles when he started putting stuff in his mouth (about 3 months)

I have 4 bottles, and we use one can of formula a week (our cans are 1000 g cans of powder) But that's with an older baby, a younger baby may not eat that much.

Crystal- make sure you get bottles that can go in the dishwasher, I assumed and I got caught out

Ryanne- sorry you have to go back so soon. I can't remember where you worked while you were pregnant? Will your MIL be taking Gabby for you?

Ruth- that's sad about that woman and her husband, I hope that people will come along side her. Like my friend said today, its great (in real life) to say "I'm praying for you" but if you are their friend then you will say "I am praying for you, and what can I do to help?". She recalled she had women who would visit her in her dark hours of the marriage early on and would sit and chat with her and she would have all this washing to do, dinner to cook etc etc. So when she offers to counsel she tries and thinks of something she can physically do to help.

Our pediatrician said that it's really not necessary, and I never sterilized them other then when we first opened the package, or when Gabby was in the NICU(when it was required). I loved the Steri-Steam bags for my pump.

Nicole, I am going back to Michael's, which is like an arts and crafts supply store. Hopefully Micah will watch Gabby, otherwise I am sure my MIL can watch her

I didn't sterlisie my bottles for Grace either, I just washed them in warm soapy water after each use.

That sounds like fun Ryanne, that's good that you have the family to watch her then so it won't have that big of an affect on her with mummy gone.

My uncle & his family just moved to town recently, and they want me to babysit my cousin one day next week (she's one). I told him I would if they could bring her to my house. I've not been to theirs and it's in a part of town I'm extremely unfamiliar with. He said he'd discuss it with his wife and let me know.

I feel a little bad for that, but is it an unreasonable request? I hope not. I'm just not comfortable going to their house to do it... I've never been there.

I'm suprised at how many of you didn't sterilize bottles LOL. I did Timmy's until he was over a year old, boiled them everynight. LOL! I probably would have done the same for Jimmy if he hadn't given up the bottle.

Thank you Claire. I ended up taking Nath to the ER tonight. All day long I had been doing everything to get him to poop (its been 3 days which is odd for him). Finally hubby said I should just take him up as he wasn't going to be here through the night (he's working). They gave him a suppository, so hopefully that helps the poor little thing. I am so tired. I am off to bed now. Hubby and I haven't spoken, he was only home for about an hour all up today (the rest of the day he was in bed or getting new glasses). We have only spoken about little things, he did make some dig at me about not driving to the hospital in the city (4 hours away) but going to drive there this morning on little sleep. I just ignored him. Had to, had 2 whining kids to look after.
Thanks everyone for your prayers and encouragment. I had one friend telling me that she would of walked out years ago, but I am sticking it out and praying for a miracle.

Good for you. Our God is a God of miracles. Don't forget that. He can change any heart. You are being faithful to your vows, and faithful to the Word, which tells us to love our husbands, even when they are unlovable.
I think you're doing wonderfully. God WILL reward your faithfulness Dear.

Lexie, I am trying to get into a nursing program. Right now I'm just going to get on the waiting list and then plod away at the bachelors degree requirements. I think now we are going to have another baby next year, and I'll wait to go back to school full time until Gabby is in school.

I was hoping to do some courses but over time I've realized that it might just better to wait until the kids are in school and then completely throw myself into it!

Crystal - are you buying different kinds of bottles? We bought some that Akeelah did not like at all when she was a baby. We held on to them, and she started using them as she got older, but I'm glad that we bought different kinds instead of a whole bunch of the same ones.

I had 6 bottles and I would wash them when there weren't any clean ones. Then I would mix the formula ahead of time so I didn't have to worry about that all of the time. We also didn't boil the bottles every time we washed them but did every once in a while.

Did I mention anywhere that I'm stuck inside my house?

There is a gigantic hole right outside my front door, and if I need to get out, it's climb down a ladder into a giant mud pit, or climb out the bedroom window...

Photo (this is what it looked like first thing this morning...it's now dug all the way to the end of the house...)

And, just cuz it's so darn cute...

And like Amber said... I would have a hard time putting up with what you put up with daily.

I might be the only one, but I don't like statements like that....it's not about "putting up with it", it's about loving through the circumstances no matter what. That is what true marriage really is. It's not just the good times, it's the bad too...and sometimes those bad times are self inflicted (by either us or our spouse)...that doesn't change the fact that we are called to love them through the bad and good. It's not about putting up with things, it's about choosing to love despite the problems.

Nicole knew what I meant.

quote:

There's also a drug they can prescribe that makes you start to lactate. I know a woman who was able to exclusively breastfeed her adopted son for a year with it.

Just knowing I would have to take drugs would make this one a no go for me. I can't see taking drugs as being very healthy for either me or baby.

quote:

I feel a little bad for that, but is it an unreasonable request? I hope not. I'm just not comfortable going to their house to do it... I've never been there.

I would never drive to the other side of town to pick someone up. Especially since I don't know this city very much and I would get lost for sure. I never find addresses alone.

quote:

I had one friend telling me that she would of walked out years ago, but I am sticking it out and praying for a miracle.

And this is why I look up to you Nicole. Honestly, if Lorne changed right after we got married and treated me poorly I doubt I would still love him... I guess your situation is different though because you do have 2 kids together. But yeah, that is why I look up to you. You still love a man that wants to be unloveable all the time! I doubt I would even love Lorne anymore if he made our whole marriage miserable. I wouldn't hate him, but I probably wouldn't like him most days either. So yeah, you are an amazing lady Nicole and I am proud of you for taking care of your kids and trying your hardest to make your marriage work out.

LOL Yolanda, have fun climbing down ladders and jumping out windows today!

Lorne talked to his boss yesterday and his boss is going to let him start working on doing bodywork stuff now! So Lorne is excited and happy to know that he won't run out of work all the time if there isn't more than one plane in at a time.
