Just on the removal of things, that wasn't a decision made by him, the executives of the ACC (AOG Australia) would of have done that as he seems to have gone straight into psychiatric care. I am pretty sure they would of stipulated that he close those down of his own, and they would of removed the rest themselves. Not good publicity and all that .

Kat, yes there is a lesson to be learnt. A few of them. One that I took is that pastors are people, not superstars and we need to be praying for them. We also need to make sure that we all do our own studies and not be so caught up in what the pastor will preach on. God speaks to all of us if we will listen.

Has the man officially issued an apology?
Had he had mental problems in the past?

He officially gave an apology through his father on Sunday. And last night he appeared on a current affair programme, I didn't see it as its not shown where I live. I can try and find a link. A friend of mine watched it, she said he looked very broken.
Hmm ok, its not on there. I will look later on youtbue maybe.

I don't think he has had mental problems in the past, he is in his mid to late 20's so I don't think he's that old to have had more than one really.

I'm glad he repented of his sin and that he's getting help for his problems. What he did is going to have some major repercussions in the church world, and they are right for removing him from ministry, but I'm glad he's repented.

AMEN! Thats the wonderful gospel of our Lord! Halleluyah!

Okay, I may be being cynical here but with recent developments in the church (not just this one) I have to question everything.

I cannot imagine having a husband battling cancer for two years and never going to an medical appointment with him; asking questions of his medical team or requesting a consultation with them. To me that is just unbelievable.

I also know that for some in a similar situation, turning a blind eye might be the easiest thing to do. All that fame and fortune would be too much to give up and the embarassment would be too much to take.

Forgive me, but I just have to wonder.

Christians Want Their Money Back!

"ANGRY Christians have condemned disgraced pastor Michael Guglielmucci's cancer hoax as the ultimate act of betrayal - and they want their money back.

His lawyer revealed yesterday that the inspirational preacher was receiving psychiatric help after confessing to faking a two-year battle with terminal cancer. Lawyer Matthew Selley told The Advertiser his client had no plans to report to police despite Pentecostal church officials advising him to reveal details of any cash that may have been raised deceptively."

Please hear me on this one; the guy need to go; Period.

Any funds that he raised expressly for his "Cancer" treatment should be returned and he should be charged with fraud if he used this "illness" to raise funds.

No amout of tearful "Repenting" by him or his wife will fix this. He needs to be out of the ministry.

Thanks
RC

I also agree. Any attempt to return to the ministry in any form will always be suspect. He needs to return whatever money he can, get a secular job if anyone will have him, and continue to get mental health help.

He has agreed to go to the Police, he has already gone to the police I think I read the other day or saw on the news. His father has set up a Postal box for those to write to who had donated money so that they may be reimbursed the article, or quote that Kat found is not correct.

This kind of thing happens more often than we realize. The church needs to stop being so trusting and gullible.

The problem is many churches teach that we are not judge... Gee, I wonder why...

HERE you can read that he has written to the police and has said he will cooperate completely with them. From what I know about his Dad through other people I wouldn't think he would be letting his son off the hook without making him take responsibility for his actions.

You'd have to assume the wife's interview as what she genuinely felt at the time - but once it sinks in it'll be a lot harder to be that gracious. At the end of the day, her husband lied to her for two years on a massive scale about cancer to cover up lying to her about the fact that he was cheating on her with his porn addiction. That means he looked at thousands of other women and desired them in addition to her.

He's only admitting all this out of guilt to relieve his own conscience, it's selfish. Whether he's sorry about his family or not is another issue. Sure, he needs the prayers of gracious people, but let's not forget that he deserves to face the anger and rage of many fleeced people who bought his song. Unfortunately his church will probably forgive him too easily without letting him know what he deserves first.

I'm glad I didn't buy the latest Hillsong album, the whole ACC church approach is too open to deceptions like this.

Rapture I think that's a little harsh in what you wrote. Yes he has done the wrong thing, very very wrong, but admitting to it and getting help is selfish? Ummm I think I would rather my husband fess up then continue it the whole entire marriage.... I think you are making too many assumptions about the church etc. I know of one pastor who was bigger than Mike who had slept with a prostitute, he still is not allowed to preach, that was like 7 years ago.

We can debate 'till the cows come home whether or not his confession was sincere or not and the fact is none of us really know. That is between this man and God. I pray that it was sincere and that God would restore him to a right relationship with Him.

However, I agree with those who say he should never be allowed in the pulpit again. According to the following Scriptures he is no longer qualified, nor according to his confession, was he qualified in the first place as his pornography addiction spanned 16 years:

1 "This is a faithful saying: If a man desires the position of a bishop,* he desires a good work. 2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, of good behavior, hospitable, able to teach; 3 not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not covetous; 4 one who rules his own house well, having his children in submission with all reverence 5 (for if a man does not know how to rule his own house, how will he take care of the church of God?); 6 not a novice, lest being puffed up with pride he fall into the same condemnation as the devil. 7 Moreover he must have a good testimony among those who are outside, lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil."- I Timothy 3

Possibly it is a bit harsh. Possibly though we underestimate just what kind of damage it does to people who were inspired by the testimony and the song and thought that finally the church could be a light in the midst of a troubled world. Far too often people who do this sort of thing make their public confession and the church readily end up applauding this to soften the blow - yet for the many people who have had their hopes pumped up only to have a violent fist punch the life out of them when the truth airs out, their stories are a long, slow crawl from betrayal by the church to somehow reconciling the lies of the church to the reality of God's love. And that kind of damage is all too often ignored.

I'm fine to leave the issue of whether he was genuine or not for the Lord and him to deal with - but I for one do not want people to forget that people hurt in church and who have their faith seriously derailed for a time or even forever, they are the eggs that are broken in order to make a few omlettes. And it is scandals like these that are the worst kind of testimony for the church.
