have you been watching?
are there any women athletes that really stand out in your mind?
Did you ever have Olympic hopes as a kid?
I have enjoyed watching most of the sports, but have really been impressed with swimming and diving. NO WAY would I jump off something that high!
Volleyball and soccer are others we have had American athletes excell in.

Growing up figure skating, I used to think about going to the Olympics, but I soon realized I would never be that good.
I actually competed mostly in synchronized skating, and that's not an Olympic sport. So mostly the dream was it being a sport in the Olympics (it's getting close.)
I've been watching as much as I can of the Olympics.
As for women this year:
Priscilla Lopes-Schliep - the Canadian who came 3rd in the 100m hurdles. For the last few years she's been in the shadows with more attention on Perdita Felicien (who fell at the Athen's Olympics). But Priscilla was absolutely amazing!
Carol Huynh - she is the Canadian wrestler who won our first gold medal!
Lolo Jones - American hurdler, I feel so bad for her, she is so talented and to hit the second last hurdle was awful. I heard something about her saying she hits a hurdle only twice a year, and this was the second time this year.

I felt bad for LoLo too. and that has to hurt when they go down.
A Swedish woman hit one too, and fell. Seems to be epidemic this time, as some of the men did too.
A lot was being said about age being faked on some of the Chinese Gymnists. Some certainly looked younger than 14 to me, but they did win over the older looking girls from other countries.
American women did well in track and field, too.

As a woman of "certain years" I was cheering on Dara in the swimming competitions!
She rocks!

Laura Wilkinson - diver ending her career - very professional.
Dara Torres and the rest of the swim team.
I forgot her name, but the 33 year old gymnast who won a silver medal.
Sheila Taormina - the first woman to compete in the olympics in 3 different sports. She's from Michigan.

Pole vaulting is something they never seem to make huge mistakes on..like flopping back down and breaking their legs. No way on Earth I could try that, even in my younger days!

The russians pole vaulter is a star in her country and they pay her enough to live in Monte Carlo !

I saw the special they did on her. She is very pretty, and does have super star status in Russia.

Did any of you have the opportunity to see the rhythmic gymnastics?
Oh Wow!.
First: I didn't know a human body could bend that way.........
Second: Beautiful, fluid almost lyrical movement.
It was breath taking.

I watched some badminton on the NBC website. Those ladies get serious!
sorry, but I have a hard time taking badminton THAT seriously!

And the Russian pole vaulter, that was fun to watch.
Eric Lamaze, Canadian in horse jumping.... there is so much history to his story, it was moving to watch him win gold.
oops, I guess he's not a woman...

I happened to see that pole vault... that made me happy and I had never before watched pole vaulting or even heard of that woman. That was neat.
I hate the new scoring they have for gymnastics.
I have rhythmic gymnastics DVR'd and need to watch it soon.

There is a British woman swimmer who is friends with another and she was just so delighted her friend (Rebecca Adlington) won not 1 but 2 golds (and a world record) ~ I doubt she could have been more excited if she won herself. She went on to win bronze in the 10k freshwater swim and was delighted with that too ~ and her other friend who took silver in the same race.
I caught some of the BMX races and a couple of the competitors seemed to really have great respect and supprt of each other. In the final the Brit came off her bike. At the end, as she crossed the finish (nursing her hand) the winner (who was French) came to help her, leaving her celebrations.

My daughter and I were watching the diving and there was a chinese or maybe Japanese and she kept saying "that's a MAN! not a lady!" was getting quite cross at me LOL
I remember it could of been in Sydney, one of our long distance walkers got the final red card just as she was near the finish, man I bawled my eyes out for her, I think alot of Australians did, it was so heartbreaking.
I haven't watch a whole lot of the Olympics, I am not a "oooohhh we have to outdo some other country" type of person, I just get excited when anyone does well!
