I fast forwarded a lot of Mack's birth episode. I think I'm interested enough to enjoy periodic updates, but that's about it.

6am isnt that early, I dont recall ever sleeping much past 7 or 8 growing up. Our little one is voluntarily up at that time everyday. I bet the family is generally up by that time most of the time because little ones in the house dont warrant anyone sleeping in much!

They've said repeatedly that they sleep in. That's why this conversation is taking place.

Even so, my point is its not like getting up early on occasion is that big of a deal. Everyone gets up super early on occasion especially when they have something going on. Just because they USUALLY sleep in, getting up at 6am for a TV interview isnt exactly torturing them.

Especially when they get to see their new niece!

We're all going to be getting up super early and leaving at 4:00 am in a couple of weeks to take my oldest to a drop off location for a trip. It won't kill us.

I think Josh was really sweet during the labor. And totally cool that he got to catch the baby. I loved the look on his face.

I loved that part of the show, also!

Really? I like Michelle. I think it would be a hoot to go have a drink with her.

Agreed! I've heard her on the radio, can't remember which show, and she is so loving and sweet and a Godly women. She reads her bible every morning before the kids get up. She also shared some of her struggles with being a mom and wife. She seems very down to earth and not odd at all.

I like Michelle, too. My baby gets up for her first nursing at 5am, so I'm not waking up before that to read the Bible, but I know I should make time.

I love calling the grandbaby Mack, 'cause her full name is a little silly, and I think Mack is a cute nickname for girl.

I definitely am looking forward to the next episode. It is question-and-answer mode, and it looks like it's going to be fun.

I caught a little of yesterday's. Nothing very exciting. But I loooooove Johanna. I think because she reminds me of my own Gebre. It's like she (and Gebre) are in a parallel universe, which occasionally intersects with ours. They just run around busily in their own little world, and everybody looking on is not quite sure *what* the kid is thinking.

Good, glad it wasn't just me! Although, I did fall for that little preview trick they had going..the shot of Michelle saying "How can I answer this politely?" Then they never actually showed any hard questions!

Did anyone see the second episode at the race? What was Jim Bob trying to say about thighs and nakedness??

I thought the whole running in jeans thing was just purposefully being silly. There are plenty of light weight "modest" fitness pants out there.

Did any of the girls run in the race?

Yes the Q&A was nothing new. There wasn't anything answered that hadn't been addressed somewhere before. There were a few things that made me raise my eyebrows but the one thing that bothered me was that Jordyn had napped in that swing alone. Mine would nap in their swings but they were in the room with me, they weren't alone on a different floor of a house.

I didn't watch the Run Duggars Run episode. I watched the Q&A thinking we might hear something new, and I agree I would have liked to hear the question and the answer to the "teaser" they had. If I catch an episode of the Duggars now then I will watch it but I don't TiVo it or make a point to sit down and watch when it comes on. I feel it is turning too much into another Jon and Kate show. Not the actions of the show, but the kids introducing the coming up next on 18 Kids and Counting, the trips, etc. I know several will disagree with me, and that is ok :), but I don't like the interviews with the younger kids. I think the less the kids are put on tv the better for them.

He said their conviction concerning modesty was that they don't show their thighs. What that has to do with running a race in jeans is beyond me. My husband wears shorts every single day and never shows his thighs.

I thought the Q&A show was cute. I love the scenes where the kids are answering questions. Johannah is such a character!

Here is where they pulled their verses from:

Isaiah 47:2 KJV
Take the millstones, and grind meal: uncover thy locks, make bare the leg, uncover the thigh, pass over the rivers

Isaiah 47:3 KJV
Thy nakedness shall be uncovered, yea, thy shame shall be seen: I will take vengeance, and I will not meet thee as a man.

I don't see how they got "the thigh is nakedness" out of that.

Thanks! I thought I heard him say that "showing the thigh= nakedness" but my son had just walked in the door and I was only half watching/listening to the TV at that point. I was wondering if I missed something that would have made it all make sense.

I thought the two little boys answering questions were adorable.

I was less comfortable with Johannah. She seemed to know what she was "suppose to say" ( not that she had been 'coached' by the parents for this event but just that she seemed to be old enough to have heard enough of their 'personal conviction' talk) but she seemed to struggle with how to say it.

Maybe because I work in Kids' Ministry, I might be seeing what isn't there but I'm not crazy about the idea of a child that age working out faith/making it her own, on national TV.

They are talking about MODEST apparel and in their view, showing the thighs is not modest. But there are light-weight pants that they could have run in - lighter than jeans for sure.

I don't see how a man can wear shorts and not show his thighs (unless he is wearing capris!)

Most boys, mens/young mens shorts are at or below the knee. I haven't seen men wear shorts that would show their thighs in years.

Hmm.....there is a man who walks everyday around the neighborhood and he wears those tight form-fitting shorts and they certainly show his thighs.

I have noticed that the current basketball teams now wear shorts that go down to the knees. That's a good thing.

Well yes if you are actually a runner then those shorts would be tight fitting but for the Duggars to say they can't show their thighs there are definitely shorts they can wear that will not show their thighs.

Maybe they just don't like those other styles. I don't see anything wrong with running in jeans.

That may be true but the point is they said they don't wear shorts because it shows the thigh. But, there are shorts out there that do not show the thigh, so their reason doesn't add up to their why they don't wear them.

If that's the case... personally, when I think of shorts, I don't think of pants that go down to my knees. It would never have occurred to me. I wouldn't have even cared enough to look up all the alternative styles. I just rarely wear shorts so I wouldn't care. If I was going on just one run, I would have probably worn jeans too rather than see if there were shorts that existed that might fit the bill that I would feel stupid wearing. I used to jog in my jeans, so I can say that pretty safely.

I didn't see a whole lot of knee-length shorts in the race. That may have been what he was talking about.

And I rarely see teen girls in knee length shorts. If they had put their girls in long shorts or coulottes, they'd have been mocked about that too. I saw one of the girls with a medal, I'm sure some of them ran. And I ran in skirts my entire childhood, so to me it doesn't seem in the least bit odd. I still remember having boys vs. girls games and races, and the girls regularly won, even in skirts.

I wonder if the focus on jeans was more TLC's thing? I didn't actually hear the Duggar's mention them except in response to interview questions. The boys didn't seem to be having any trouble.
