THis is a gift for OneJohn. He's been asking for a new thread. So here goes.

Would you marry a person who is not interested in sex if everything else about him or her is perfect by your standard?

Absolutely not...the Bible says, "It is better to marry than to burn." To me, while that shouldn't be the only reason to marry, it definitely is A reason..that would spell misery for me. No way, Jose.

Whew! Thanks Jewel. I know I can always count on you to answer questions that are somewhat controversial.

I'm with you on that one!

Yes, I would (I think I would; I guess I'd never know until I was presented with situation). It'd probably be easier on me personally if I could marry (and date) that way. :)

Nope!

It's one thing to marry and then something happens to your spouse and for some reason they are no longer interested, such as mental or physical health problems. I marry for better or worse, in sickness and health.

But to right up front know they aren't interested?

Nope.

Yes I would.....it would be easier if you ask me. It seems all people build their relationship is sex these days, even Chrisitians so I would for sure marry someone who was not intereste in sex if everything else was good.

I have no idea why anyone would marry someone if you did not plan to share this with them. I am trying to think of any reason to marry as opposed to remain best buddies if you didn't plan on "knowing" them in the biblical sense, and I cannot think of any. Why not be roomies and keep the tax benefits of staying single? (Just kidding on the roomie thing, probably not the best witness.) I have heard more than one Pastor state that if you are not having difficulty keeping your hands to yourself during courtship (needing a chaperon), then you shouldn't get married.

Maybe they have a great health insurance policy, or to help them become a citizen?

Campus Crusaded for Christ recommends newly married couples spend a lot of time getting to know one another in the biblical sense to form that bond needed to make it through the tough times after the honeymoon period is over.

Negative.

Here is why:

Sharing yourself with your spouse to me is the next level of intimacy. If you are meshing on everything else and sharing everything else....then sharing your your body with that person shows that you are commited to that person on a whole other level. You are bringing together more that just the physical it is the Emotional, and Spiritual as well that is becoming one.

<Shrug> My opinion.

Hello Ladies!!!!!

Nope.

There is actually a man interested in me who has expressed that and so he will forever stay on the "just friends" list.

Like some other posters I honestly can't see why you'd bother "get married" anyways. Get a puppy if you just want company. They're easier to take care of.

Song;

I beg to differ. If you must get a puppy, get a stuffed one. Puppies, despite the hype that says differently, cannot always be housetrained. I'm given to understand that this is true of spouses as well, but be that as it may, I got a puppy. Many thousands of dollars in floor coverings later, I have realized three things. That 1) puppies grow up, but they don't always mature. They will, however, always manure: and 2) quite often the companionship is not always worth it and 3) there is an amazing selection of high-priced floor coverings on the market.

Cats are similar.

If you must get a live pet for companionship, get a fish.

I suggest rather that you become a collector of stuffed animals. It WILL be cheaper and less annoying in the long run. Carefully investing could eventually bring IN returns on collectibles rather than costing MORE and then ending up by actually celebrating a greasy spot on the road.

I got enough high-maintenance critters in my life now...

shallbe

Hehe! Men aren't much easier than this! Especially in their teenage years. Trails of dirty laundry, piles of dishes after they decide to fix dinner, candy wrappers and potato chip bags all over the house... Ok, so they don't pee on the carpet, but they do drive vehicles that are significantly more expensive than carpet... yup a new kitty is looking pretty attractive right now.

To answer the OP: No way. I like Kell's answer. If I'm going to share my life with someone, sharing my body will be the next step. If I cannot do that, how much intimacy will there be? Of course, things happen after the wedding that are beyond our control and you learn to adjust. But to go in to a marriage with the expectation there will be no sex... no, that just won't work.

Absolutely not. A good marriage requires good sex as sex is a bonding activity (for me at least).

Besides that it would be kind of silly to put with all the various little annoyances (and we all have them, even me!!) if I don't even get to have sex. If you're not going to consummate the marriage (a lot ) why bother even getting married.

Even YOU John O? Even you have your little quirks... Gee, no way! pfst! yea right.

****snickering***

Would I marry someone I argue a lot with? Well, if we are arguing before marriage, that is not a good flag for me. I'd have to say I would have to take a good long hard look at why we did not get along and see if it could be remedied before I ever thought of marrying the person.

No really. I can be annoying sometimes. I know it is very hard to believe but the OH demands that I be truthful about this.

I wouldn't marry someone whom I argued with a lot but I would marry someone who I've had plenty of spirited discussions with. In fact, if we've not had any spirited discussions that's not a good sign. I don't want someone who will be bowled over. I want someone with spunk and feistyness.

(edited to correct spelling error that twinkly so graciously and subtly pointed out)

M was both feisty and full of spunk. It's how women are supposed to be. But while that does sound very tempting, if I said yes people would accuse me of flirting and I do not flirt. I have a reputation to uphold after all.

Yes, I would marry someone I enjoy some spirited bantering often. If that's missing, I'll get bored very quickly. But if he has some very redeeming qualities, , I can overlook it. If he likes respectful discussions instead of arguments, yeah, I can marry him.

Nope for me also...

I like the puppy suggestion!

Arguing isn't my favorite hobby - but I love to discuss things and think its' perfectly ok to agree to disagree, so long as there's a balance of non-argumentative conversation
