SInce some of us are tired of reading about how CHristian schools are so aweful or only let the cream of the crop attend here's a thread to talk about our good Christian schools that support all kinds of students and even the scholarship kids can succeed.

Our school is excellent. It is truly a Christian school...meaning they are working to develop the child's Christian walk and to teach the children academically. We have wonderful servant's of the Lord that teach the children and the programs do include resource teachers to help those with academic needs (no extra fees). It is a school where you know the teachers love the Lord and are there to serve Him.

So is the one my dd attends. The teachers love the Lord and love the kids. We have a Resource center for the kids who need extra help but there is a fee for it just because someone has to pay those teachers. However, we have about 5 people that work in the resource center. There's also an organization here that offers programs to kids in any school. They have these little mobil classrooms and visit all the schools. Kids can get remedial help (usually along the lines of extra tutoring as opposed to helping kids with LD) but they also offer accelerated programs for kids who need the extra challenge.

The scholarship kids aren't treated any differently than the ones from rich families. If a kid who is from a well off full paying family acts up they get in as much trouble as a kid who isn't paying full price. My dd has scholarships and she is a favorite among her teachers and won two awards in the end of year academic awards: A leadership award for her Bible class and "math detective" for her math class. The essentially have a best overall student in each class: not necessarily the best grade but the one who is the best overall in class. She one those awards for Bible and Math. They will also give a highest average and/or most improved for most classes.

We trust GOd to provide for our school and if a well off family is offended that their child isn't perfect and leaves then we know God has something else in store for the school.

I went to a school that was similar growing up. We didn't have the resource room services in the high school level but we didn't just take the cream of the crop either. Unless a child had a severe learning disability then whole families were accepted...not just those who could make all A's.

My cousin is graduating tonight from a great Christian school. She took AP classes, was in band and had a variety of core and elective classes to chose from. Her school takes the Spanish III and IV students on a mission trip to a Mexican orphanage every Spring Break! My aunt, who also teaches at the school, has always spoken very highly of it for all 3 of her kids. The Christian school in my hometown was a joke, but my cousin's school reminds me that there are plenty of good Christian schools out there [:)]

My daughter graduated from Vanguard University last year with a BA in English. She completed her student teaching this year including 2/3 of a masters program (to be completed next year) and is now credentialed.

Vanguard is on US News' top 20 private schools list and provides fantastic educational opportunities. The students are involved in missionary projects.

Personally, I was impressed with the student leadership, worship facilities at Newport Mesa Church and a majority of the students I encountered who led a Christian lifestyle.

I recommend Vanguard University, a bit pricey, but worth the investment.

I went to a Christian academy from 8th grade to graduation. It was small and so there were not a whole lot of opportunities. However, I enjoyed the school very much because it was small and I was able to get one on one help with teachers and had smaller classrooms. Despite those good things, the school focused on dress code. Children did not like to wear what was in dress code and the administration also did not realize or care about the types of clothing that was available to buy. Eventually, this led to uniforms which in turn fixed absolutely none of the dress code problems... for they were still problems. Other than that, i loved my school!
