mapachito13 -> NFL 2009-10 Season Thread (6/23/2009 6:48:59 PM)

Even though it's summer, football is in the air. I picked up a football preview magazine on the weekend and they were picking the Patriots (Boo! [:'(]) and the NY Giants to be in the Super Bowl next February. Even though they are picking my beloved Steelers (Yay!) to finish first in their division they don't think they'll return to the big show.

I don't think Tom Brady will be so stupendous coming off of a year off. Besides, what if he breaks a nail? [:o] That could end his season quickly! [:D]

Tantum_ergo -> RE: NFL 2009-10 Season Thread (6/23/2009 8:51:42 PM)

A few stories I am interested in seeing unfold throughout the season in no particular order:

1) How will Cutler do in Chicago and how will Denver do without Cutler.

2) Will Brett Favre come out retirement... Again.

3) Will a team actually give Michael Vick a second chance and sign him?

4) How Mark Sanchez will hold up to the pressure of being a quarter back in NY.

5) How long it will take Mike Homlgren to get the "itch" to coach again.

God bless

My answers (which aren't worth a plug nickel) to your questions proceed as follows:
1) Cutler will bring up the Bears a slight notch but will something happen to make him [sm=crystreams.gif]

2) I think he wants to come back. He can't stay away from the game and especially the camera lights!

3) No. He would be a PR managers worst nightmere come true. In this economy they can't afford to lose even one sponsor.

4) You've never seen the media coverage of USC here in So Cal? He'll handle that pressure well. It's the opposing teams offensive line he should be worried about.

5) Mike's itch has been scratched and his wife won't allow it to itch ever again!

We shall see. I think Mike would love a chance to be a teams GM again. I think he looks at it as some unfinished business. I can see another team giving him the opportunity to wear both the coaching and GM hats. Why not? If he is just interested in becoming a GM I wouldn't mind seeing Seattle give him another shot at it even though he was hit and miss when he had the title in Seattle and Ruskell (sp?) is currently doing a great job I think. Maybe just having the one role would benefit him?

God bless

The Giants can get to the Super Bowl where they can meet and lose to my Steelers! [:D] Go black and gold! Wave that terrible towel high!

Proof these "experts" are lazy. I think New England has been the "safe pick" for these guys for the last 5-6 years at least.

He's been blessed with great receivers but he not the best scambling QB so he's not so great if the D is punching holes in his OL. Last year shows that the best D, especially against the pass, is going to win the big games.

I'm kind of wondering if TO will have an energizing effect on the Bills or create a major distraction.

Speaking of distractions:

"NFL offensive linemen bang heads all the time. Three Dallas Cowboys linemen are now professional head-bangers, too.

Leonard Davis, Marc Colombo and Cory Procter have signed a recording contract as part of a heavy metal band called Free Reign. Their debut album for Australia's Riot Entertainment will be released this fall."
Source

I hope their touring schedule doesn't interfere with their football side job! [:D]

Will San Diego ever stop disappointing us in the post season? Here's hoping... As a Seahawks fan, I am GEEKED by the acquisition of TJ Houdshmanzadeh (or however you spell it). He is a vastly underrated receiver. I'm calling my shot: Seahawks v. Chargers in the Super Bowl! I know, I know...but I can dream, right?

You meant Seahawks Vs. Steelers! SD hasn't found the seam in the steel curtain yet!

In other Tom Brady news:

People.com is reporting Gisele Bundchen is pregnant. Citing two anonymous sources, the report says Tom Brady's wife is due early next year.

Brady has a son, Jack, with actress Bridget Moynahan.

Late last month, the New England Patriots quarterback said Bundchen was not pregnant. "One is enough," Brady said on May 28. "I have dogs, and that's all I need."

Obviously, Tom is not a kid person.

Actually, a rematch with the Steelies would be quite interesting. We would need to recruit some better zebras this time, though...

Yes...still bitter...

We'll see what happens under a new coach and a new system. They have always been a team on the verge of real greatness. They always have been competitive under Holmgren and you could never go easy on them. That team has my respect!

To get there the Steelers will have to go through the mighty Bengals!!!
Yeah! Quiver with fear!!! Quiver, I say!
Wait a minute, you are not quivering - that is shaking. Shaking with laughter is not quivering!!!
Ahhh, you ruined it for me.

We will see bud, we will see. Terrible towel, where did they come up with that anyway. What is so terrible about a towel. They'll be using those towels to dry their eyes this year.

Go Big Blue. Down with the Steelers.[;)]

The Cowboys got a new stadium and jettisoned Terror Owens. They might get to postseason but will never win the big dance unless they get a better head coach.

I've had a wet towel snapped on my backside in the locker room. [:@] Then, and only then, will you realize how terrible a towel can truly be! [:D]

Eli will have that feeling after he gets knocked on his backside by Dick Lebeau's defense a few times! [;)]

Remember when Romo bobbled that PAT in the playoffs a couple of years ago?......

[:D] Just giving you a hard time. Cowboy fans are fun to do that to.

God bless you

I don't think Romo is an elite QB. He is lucky to be surrounded by a lot of talent. He's a QB whose level, I feel, is raised by the talent around him instead of the other way around.

It's all because of Wade Phillips and the Curse of Flutie. As long as Phillips is around, disappointment will abound.

Then again, with the exception of Bill Parcells, Jerry Jones has tended to prefer "yes-men" as head coach since the blow-up with Jimmy Johnson.

Me, too. The Curse of Flutie has to do with Phillips bungling of the Bills QB situation when Flutie was there.

The Curse of Flutie was born back in the 1999 playoffs when, as Buffalo’s head coach, Phillips poured all the ingredients for this pigskin pestilence into his steaming brew kettle of bad decisions. Phillips benched Flutie, Buffalo's starting quarterback, just before the last game of the season, allegedly to give back-up Rob Johnson some reps. But then Phillips gave Johnson the starting nod over Flutie n a wildcard playoff game against Tennessee, too, despite the fact that the pint-sized passer had led the Bills to a 10-5 record

Sometimes coaches have a Janet Jackson attitude towards their players.

"What have you done for me lately?" OOPS just had a wardrobe malfunction! Although for me, that means a wedgie! [&:]
