who asks, "is mommy (or daddy) in Heaven?" when an unsaved parent dies?

I think I would say, "I don't know, honey. If your mommy accepted Jesus as her Savior, then she most certainly is in heaven."

Nobody knows ... Only God. He decides. He loves us and we should love Him too.

Are you talking about another person's child, or your own? Family type answers will be far different than that of a Pastor, or stranger. Please share a few particulars, age of child, and relation to the child. Children do not have PHD's.

Only problem is, what if the child KNOWS the parent didn't believe in Jesus, what do you say, then? Perhaps mvic's answer would be more appropriate.

This a gospel opportunity that you have to be prepared for ... if you have equipped yourself to speak the gospel in a child's understanding, then you can explain heaven/hell in such a way that the child can determine for him/herself where the loved one is.

I think this is why God said to speak/write these things all day everyday to our children? Deu.6:1-9
