Does God Really Answer Prayer? Yes, in Four Ways
Dr. Ed Young - The Winning Walk

Do you believe God really answers prayer? Really and truly... that God hears your personal prayers and cares enough to respond?
Your answer to those questions probably dictates if, when, where, and how you pray.

You know, prayer can serve many purposes, but generally speaking, it’s an intimate conversation with God. Prayer involves Him stirring our hearts, us communicating with Him, and then listening for how God may respond to us.

Now, when it comes to prayer, there are a lot of folks who have the idea that God doesn’t want us to ask Him questions. But that’s not true! God delights in His children asking Him questions. In fact, God was asked questions… big and small... all the way through the Bible.

One of the people who literally put God “on trial” was a man from the Old Testament named Habakkuk. Habakkuk was a prophet in Judah, and he felt the full weight of the problems, pressures, sins, and difficulties of his family and of his nation.

And although Habakkuk lived a long time ago, his story is extremely relevant…especially when you look at modern history and all that we’re dealing with in America and around the world.

In Habakkuk 1:2, Habbakuk asked the following of the Lord...

I thought it was interesting to see the article point out that sometimes God can't hear our prayers because we have sin in our lives.

Do you agree or disagree?

Yep... but He doesn't always answer them the way we expect (or want) Him to ~ and that means we don't always realise He's answered them.

And what about the answer to prayer that is 'Do-it-yourself'. God's going to give us the strength to do what we need to do, but sometimes we have to do things ourselves, not expect Him to do them for us.

I disagree. Years ago I was in a backslidden state, yet I was always prayerful.
As Agapetos stated He answers them, but not always as what we believe the answer to be.
In my case His answer truly was not what I expected, but He answered me nonetheless which brought me to repentance.

I believe God works in all believer's lives on a personal level and He knows how He will deal with their "sin" or circumstance that will lead them back into His fold.
Just my 2 cents

I agree with the above. When we sin...

quote:

1Jn 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
1Jn 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous that He may forgive us the sins, and may cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1Jn 1:10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His Word is not in us.

He should be the first we run to, in prayer and repentance. All to often I stayed away from God in shame because I was told He wouldn't hear me. My experience now bears witness to the better truth Jesus told us of with the parable of the prodigal son.

Remember, the son was a son before he left for the far country, so this also applies to believers gone astray.

Praise God He hears us.

God always answers our prayers but not always the way we want him to.

I agree with the statement that when we hang onto unconfessed sin that the Lord doesn't hear and answer our prayers - that's in the Psalms. Jesus also made it abundantly clear that when we don't forgive, God won't forgive us. However, when we are living in right relationship with the Lord, and right relationships with others, I also firmly believe that God DOES answer our prayers, and that He does give us what we ask for - unless of course in the case where we are asking amiss to spend it upon our lustful pleasures (see James). It's a sad commentary on the church today that so many Christians don't believe God answers prayer any more! Jesus taught over and over in so many places:

Mark 11:24: Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them

John 14:13: And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son

John 15:7: If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will F86 ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you

I could cite numerous other Scriptures, but it's amazing how Christians have stopped believing the promises of God! He is a faithful, good, prayer-answering God! He still performs miracles today! Prayer doesn't just change US, it changes our circumstances!

I just preached a message this past Sunday morning on the power of passionate prayer. James 5:16 says, "The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and wonderful results."

I want to challenge you, dear Christian - let's be BELIEVERS, and not DOUBTERS! Let's pray and believe God to move powerfully in our lives, to bless us so that we can be a blessing to others, amen?

I disagree. An all powerful and all knowing Lord is not likely to be deafened by sin. In fact
if this were so He would never hear, as we all sin and fall short.

A Christian who is also knowingly living in sin should not expect his prayers to be answered the way that he would like. However, if his prayers are about the sin and he is actively working to overcome them, then he can expect God to hear.

God desires our obedience because when we follow His ways instead of our ways, He is willing to hear and answer our plea.

I am personally not sure why He answers prayers as He does -- especially when He answers in a way that promotes betterment for us. But I do believe that when we pray, if it is not at an acceptable time, He will not hear us, but He may hear someone else who is praying for us.
quote:

Jeremiah 7:16 "As for you, do not pray for this people, and do not lift up cry or prayer for them, and do not intercede with Me; for I do not hear you.
He has astounded me whit His answers to prayer.

A recent answer still amazes me, and I remember many others for which there is no human;y logical reason that He answered so graciously. I did nothing to deserve any of them: it's just that He is so amazing.
