Garsy, are u ok wiht the sub art teacher? I hope I didn't sound like I a mom earlier when I comment on your situation.

She's okay. It's obvious that she's NOT an art teacher by any means, especially when she's just tossed into a situation and not given anything to go on. I'm there to help because of the kids. That's really the only reason I'm there. I really hate to see the quality of our kid's art education fall so and it is. It's depressing really. This particular sub will be there til December 1st. Then I'm sure we'll have a different sub until they finally get a permanent teacher in.

Night two of the play. We are attending tonight. Should be interesting.

Blessings,

Garsy

Deb, we're about to start our six week Christmas holidays. Throughout the year we have three two week breaks and a long break over Christmas/New Year.

Our Congressional district is a pretty heated race. The Republican (who was really a Democrat policy-wise) was losing because she didn't fit the party, IMO. She has backed down and now it's between the Conservative and Democrat. The county sheriff race is also important to our area. No other important ones I can think of...

Not much going on here school-wise. Nick is skimming by, barely. He is in 3rd grade, but he can barely read. He mostly guesses when he reads. I noticed last week, they shortened his spelling list to 9 words instead of 18, and also dumbed the words down. I still hate his math curriculum, and we are still using drill sheets at home to try to help him memorize addition and subtraction facts.

Has he been tested for dyslexia??? He MIGHT have it. Especially since he is in third grade. That is the ideal testing age for that disability.

I agree. Dh and I started doing the low carb thing on Monday and so far so good. I'm getting clever with throwing things together. This morning I sauted button mushrooms, a few slices of a white onion olive oil and butter. The added in 2 egg whites salt and pepper. It was yummy. I topped it off with slices of 1/2 avacado. It's so hard to get started, but well worth it in the long run.

Yes, how did it go?

Kath, how was your play?

We've got winter play, but the kids haven't been that busy yet. They got their report cards and both are doing very well. I'm proud of them.

I need to post prayer requests and forgive me for not doing that last week. I forgot.

The kids did a fantastic job! I'm really proud of them! Went on what the kids consider the worst night, but I thought they did just fine. Zoe was the only one of the kids that insisted on going. She got to sit in the front row as there was an empty seat next to Ty's girlfriend! She was pretty excited about it! I guess the auditions for the Spring Musical are in December, but I don't think Ty is going to audition for that. He may choose to work on stage crew or be an usher for a performance.

And to boot, both Ty and Aryn are really working hard and it's showing in their grades!!

I've rearranged my office today. I have to finish organizing my scrapbooking table yet, but I'm like this arrangement a lot better!

Blessings,

Garsy

It went well, thanks for asking! She did a terrific job, and remembered all her lines. She even helped someone who forgot theirs' by whispering the lines. She was the most animated one on stage. :)

Garsy, I'm glad it went well for Ty too!

I've got two sickies here.

Brian's been in bed since about 2:30 or so and vomited once - slight fever but nothing major.
Aryn laid on the couch for about an hour tonight after school sleeping and has since vomited 3 or 4 times. She has a slight fever as well. No school for her tomorrow.

Blessings,

Garsy

Now Zoe's sick. She didn't make it to the bathroom either.

What a mess in the hall all the way to the bathroom.

UGH! Whose next? So far the only two not to have some sort of this between Saturday and today is Ty and me.

Blessings,

Garsy

well scratch the previous post.

Ty's sick now too. But of course he's sure he's well enough to go to school. I hate to have them miss, that's for sure, but he's going to have to today. He supposedly has a Bio test today.

All three schools will be getting phone calls this AM.

So now it's down to me.

Blessings,

Garsy

Oh Garsy. ((HUGS)) and prayers for strength and endurance. You're gonna need it, I know how hard it is to take care of a whole household that's sick at the same time. No fun. No fun at all.

Oh, dear - it sounds so miserable Garsy. Here I am, wishing we'd get it done and overwith since #2 (PBee) went down with the flu 17 days after BigBee. 17 days after that is Thanksgiving weekend and then, week before Christmas and I said we can't go down one at a time...

well whatever it is I've got it too.

I'm thinking it's just some stomach bug. It's hitting Ty and Zoe the hardest. Ethan was spared this time around. He's the only one that went to school today.

If Zoe doesn't turn around soon, I'm pretty certain her doc's going to want to see her and I don't think I will be able to get her there. Thankfully, Brian and Aryn are feeling better.

Strange tho - the highest fever anyone has gotten is 101.0 and that was Aryn. Ty has had NO fever and Zoe's has been very low grade. Just a lot vomiting for the kids and it's coming out the other end for me.

Ty's upset that he had to miss today. Apparently he was really ready for the test he would have had in biology. He just hates getting behind.

blessings,
Garsy

Hi Everybody! Thanks for asking Debilyn! I am fine and we did get another student from Germany this year. Things have been crazy for us. We had two students for a while, but one went home, and my parents moved away, but half of their things are in my house and with the girls competing in poms, the boys just finishing soccer, and now Thanksgiving coming and I am hosting dinner and on top of that, we are trying to paint and lay a new floor. I hope all is well with you. I haven't had time to read through this thread yet but if I am not back, have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!!!!!

Good to see you here Tracy!

Kath and Garsy, I'm glad the plays went well!

I hope everyone gets to feeling better soon, Garsy.

I think we'll be getting N glasses. I asked him about his not good grade on his science notes and he said he can't see the overhead. At the beginning of the year he said he couldn't read that teacher's handwriting, but never heard anything about not being able to focus on the words. Sept. 5 the eye doctor said the correction wasn't enough for glasses; we'll get a quick recheck done, it really sounds like he needs them.

Ugh

We have been going to Sunday School, and, as adults, didn't seem to settle on a teacher, or program or anything. So, we drifted into doing a lesson that was emailed from the denomination (that was suggested). These lessons are for young adults and as the weeks go by, it is more obivious. I am on the mailing list and just read this weeks' and I don't want to do it. It is almost the same as last weeks. It talks about pop-culture and our older members can't relate.

I don't want to do it anymore.

But, if I complain - I will end up teaching. And I don't want to do that or to even start for a week. Nor do I want to skip and the kids need to be there.

Mb, that's a tough situation. Do you not have others that like to teach?

Hi Tracy.

Garcy, hope everyone gets better soon . No sickness goign aroud here, not even at the high school, as far as I know. Dd has had a lump on her upper eyelid for a few week and it goes down when she puts warm compresses on it. I think it's a clogged oil gland and it can last for awhile.

The weather has been so gloomy these last few days and cold. I guess it is fall after all.

Anyone start decorating for Christmas yet?

Ok, I heard this on Fox news this morning: An elementary school ( not sure what the names is) has a holiday gift store fundraiser every year and take donations from parents for the kids to buy. They now have rejected all Christmas themed items along with all (any) religious themed items.

What a load of ,,,,,,, . It's the PTO that runs this thing and I think we should all send them letters letting them know how stupid this is. I'm gonna find the link and post it. I just thought, "How can you have a holiday gift store with nothing remotely holidayish??"

No one wants to be the teacher and no one wants to step on anyones toes. When we first started, we walked in and everyone shared their favorite bible verse and why. The following week it was the verse you turn to when troubled. Then it was 'favorite verse in Psalms'. This was interspersed with talking about email forwards that 'spoke' to someone and brought them in. That same person would validate the verse you suggested, and apply it to their life...You - "That was a great verse that you shared, when I was sick in 1993, I turned to a different verse (insert verse here) for a different meaning, but it was very similar to what you have shared."

So, we picked this program, based on the cost (free) and one or two weeks worth of stuff. Last week we were talking about diaster movies and their value and did we like them, then applied them to scripture. This week, we are talking about the movie 2012 and questioning what we would do at the end of the world. Problem being - on our own, we asked those questions while talking about diaster movies.

Milk toast and steak folks - that is all I'm saying...
