ORIGINAL: cornergas Since we have learned the pagan origin of Dec 25th, we have ceased observing this day. I have talked to Pastors who have said the day has been christianized from the pagans? Huh? Only God can Christianize or bless, or make Holy a day. We mortals seem to think we can do the same thing... So as we are not sure of the date (sometime in Autumn), and this day is not commanded, it is a tradition of man..and Jesus covered that when He addressed it as hypocrisy when we follow the traditions of man, and follow not my Commandments in Matthew 15. Also refer to Jeremiah chapter 10 Know the truth and it will set you free Remember the Sabbath to keep it Holy God bless us all. I totally agree with cornergas and voted no on the poll. And I guess that as Jesus came at the Feast of Tabernacles, dh and I feel we'd do better to celebrate that instead.

PC means it depends who you want to worship...it you want to worship satan..December 25, easter, halloween are the way to go..right on..you got it made..if you want to worship Jesus and follow His commandments, then maybe we should follow the narrow gate to salvation and follow God's chosen days! Know the truth and it will set you free Remember the Sabbath to keep it Holy God bless us all.

You are way out of line and against scripture to judge the true Master's servants that honor Him on any given day. And to attribute the worship and adoration offered to Him to be worship of Satan is to get awfully close to the sort of thing Jesus condemned as blaspheming the Holy Spirit.

Biblically speaking, I believe that the legalists were the ones who followed a set of man-made rules and traditions, making them of equal importance to the commands of God. So by that definition, it would not be the ones who don't celebrate Christmas who are the legalists, would it. Seeing that Christmas is a pagan, man-made tradition, and that in Jeremiah it says that decorating trees is an abomination to God, I am glad that I am 'free' to ditch Christmas and celebrate the times of year that God gave to remind us of when His Son was born, and which remind us of His plan of redemption. I don't know as much as I ought to know about these feasts, being rather new to the idea of keeping them, but I'm definitely as 'free' as anyone else on this thread, if I am one of the 'legalists' you were referring to.

That was way way out of line and an insult to the Body of Christ. If you, cornergas, don't believe in celebrating Christmas, then don't celebrate. But to put down those who do and then to say that we worship satan is blasphemous and a lie, which satan is the father of, btw. Don't do that cornergas, it is not a righteous act but very unwise. Let each be persuaded in his own mind, says the Word. How we honor God by giving gifts to the poor even more because we do this all throughout the year being Christians and all; by setting aside a time for special prayer of thanks for bringing us through this year in one piece, hallelujah and focusing on the goodness of God's gift to mankind is something that God will not turn His head, of a truth. By inviting in the lost to sup with us and showing them that we care about them 365 days of the year and talking to them about the Nativity Story is God honoring and God glorifying, not the opposite. So please don't try to be God's spokesman. HE is doing a fine job all by Himself.

Other than a brief note about the particular time, I'm not sure it is clear that Jesus celebrated Chanukkah. But if He did, as your question intimates, He certainly wasn't stuck on celebrating a limited set of observances. And as the only One worthy of our complete devotion and worship, the risen Lord and the heavenly Father very likely welcomes our celebration of the Incarnation.

They were the ones who added a 'protective hedge' of man-made rules around God's Law, in order to stop people from accidentally breaking any of God's laws, and they put this yoke of man-made laws on the people, condemning anyone who did not keep them. This is why Jesus called them hypocrites. He said they honoured God with their lips but their hearts were far from Him because they laid aside the commandments of God, and taught as doctrines the traditions of men.

And He's already given us the dates to celebrate it - and that wouldn't be Christmas. And if He is the only One worthy of our complete devotion and worship, then shouldn't we celebrate His Incarnation on the day that has been given to us by God, or on the pagan festival which man chose to Christianize? .

And what is wrong (meaning sinful) with man-made traditions? I don't mind if people want to celebrate Christmas - that is between them and God and we are all accountable to Him for the decisions we make, and the things we choose to do. But I do mind people insinuating that people who celebrate GOD GIVEN festivals (instead of man-made traditions) are legalists, when us so-called legalists are trying to obey God from the heart, and believe that His laws are better than anything we could come up with ourselves. The other thing that Jesus said about those who followed man-made traditions and laid aside the commandments of God, was that they 'worshipped God in vain'. Who here wants to be told that they worshipped God in vain, when it comes to the time that we all have to stand before Him and give an account?

No Corne..Jeremiah 10 says follow not the way of the heathens, and goes on to illustrate how they celebrate Dec 25th the winter solstice..by bringing in an evergreen tree and decorating it...hmmmm that was 600 BC..and we are still following these heathen ways.....and we use the excuse we are celebrating it to Jesus...well if celebrating this pagan day does it for you..knock yourself out with it..we all have free will.. Know the truth and it will set you free Remember the Sabbath to keep it Holy God bless us all.

It's about idols. See v. 5, 11, 14. The "heathen ways" is idol worship. Christians are not worshipping false gods on Dec. 25.

I absolutely celebrate the birth of my Savior big time. When asked why I celebrate, I have a reason for the hope that is in me.

Brilliant bit of information RCJ..but they celebrated the solstice on the 25th of December..just like here..only our world, which is ruled by satan polishes it up and shamefully names it after our Lord and Saviour. to give it some religious credibility. Know the truth and it will set you free Remember the Sabbath to keep it Holy God bless us all.
