But whoa...that thing woke me out of sleep! That was one of the biggest I've felt recently.....maybe the shock waves were just bigger on the Hamakua Coast...HA!

Trishy! Hmmm...I would like a mango tea if you still have that, and a double dip of guri guri. I love ice cream! I haven't had ice cream for a week so that sounds good, just a weird name. You probably did not feel the earthquake because you were already swinging in your hammock! Trishy, Is a lot of Hawaii Buddist? I live in the thickest part of the Bible belt. We really don't have too many false god type religions. It is either altered Christianity, no religion, or Christian (protestant and Catholic) but not much idolarty based religion. I am pretty sheltered. That is why I really want to go somewhere for missions. Wow, how about Hawaii? LOL! Could you send me your blog link again? I seemed to misplace it.

((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((LORI))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) Sure, got lot's of mango iced tea left and some guri guri. Help yourself Actually, the Big Island is really the only island in the island chain that gets earthquakes. I'm no expert but I think it has something to do with the volcano. Hawaii is more prone to Hurricanes. Our last one was Hurricane Iniki, which was when the first Jurrasic Park was being filmed. A lot of stormy scenes in that movie was actually real because of the Hurricane. Yes, there is a good number of Buddists here in Hawaii. We are a very big cultural melting pot. Immigrants came here during the sugar cane era, mainly from Japan, China, Philipinnes, etc... to marry and work in the fields. BUT while many are Asian, many actually do not practice the religion. It's more tied into the culture. Lot of cultural traditions have religious tones to them. It's like the Jews. Their traditions were also God-given and are practiced naturally. The same with Buddism- many don't worship regularly or if they do, they just do it because it's natural. For example, the number 4 is considered bad luck because the word for 4 also means death. That kind of stuff. I grew up learning from my parents all kinds of Japanese/Buddist things. I never went anywhere near the bible belt but have heard things about it. The Christians here may be different but I don't know how so. My co-worker friend at Youth for Christ is from California and he thinks that we are a little different. . I think you would love it here. I am not sure what kinds of missions you could do here. We have a pretty solid Christian population and different denominations. I guess it would depend what kind of ministry you want to do. It's pretty exciting to me because we are a small island. The larger church denominations here are Hope Chapel, Grace Bible (pretty charismatic), Calvary Chapel and are largest church here (over 10,000) is New Hope Christian Fellowship. We also have the others- Baptist, Lutheran, Presbyterian, and non-denominational. I go to a small non-denominational church. If you want to do a lot of outreach, New Hope or the larger sized denominational churches are best. Then again, go to any small church and make a difference by moving things along! There's a big movement coming soon here called Transformation Hawaii. It was inspired by the Transformation videos. It's a movement to live out for Jesus in our marketplace- praying, etc... It's supposed to be huge and the conference is coming up this June (I think). It's the first one. Whew! Sorry for the long post! I wonder if I can just go ahead and post my blogs here? I have no chat or message board but you can post comments. Hmmm. Well, just in case, I'll just send a PM.

(sitting in the hammock on the beach, enjoying the ocean breeze, the taste of salt in the air, and the wave music) Hi Kevin, I mean Eric! Nice to meet you, I'm Lori. I have loved seeing your great avatars around. Trishy, Thanks for the mango tea and guri guri. I was kidding about missions in Hawaii. I would want to go there just because it would be a beautiful place to live. For real I would need to do a short term mission trip at this time in my life with 3 kiddos. Our church goes to Haitti about every other year. So that is an option.

Hey Trishy! My dw has lost over 80lbs in the last 5 months!! She has been trying to lose wait for the past 2 years. I've seen her struggle through that process. She's tried alot of programs and finally found the one that worked for her. I think it was the Dr. Phil thing. I am so proud of her. I even lost 15lbs just watchig my carb intake. But now that I've hit a level spot, I need to watch my calories.
