Jeez, DenimDiva. No wonder she wants to live there. I can't believe they would do that. Even if they disagreed with your rules, that's disrespectful. Hold your ground. I don't have kids, but it hasn't been that long since I was one. It won't be that way forever. I know I gave my mom even worse grief than that, and have said probably worse things than what she has said to you. Now we are best friends. Hopefully it will be that way with you and your daughter.

Can someone tell me about or direct me to information about assisted living for people with mental disabilities? I need to check into it as a possible option, and I'm not finding any useful information about it.

Pray that I can keep my panic attacks under control because I really don't do well with crowds, but I really, really want to use those backstage passes that I have for Martina McBride.

I'll be praying, Roberta -about the panic and about the stuff with your daughter. everythingat - you MAY (keyword may) have some luck by contacting the local chapter of a group that works specifically with those who have mental illness such as NAMI or the DBSA, or by contacting your local public housing authority, the local disability advocacy groups, and/or the local public/county mental health clinic. Then again, you may still get no info or conflicting info. The sort of thing you're looking for is often hard to find, almost like they keep it that way on purpose. Me? Best as my neuro can figure out, I spent the weekend having seizures (probably temporal lobe, maybe some other type of partial seizure. But she said whichever it is, she's pretty sure it was seizures based on the description of symptoms and either way it's a type that "pdocs will often mistakenly presume to be psychosis". So she upped my zonegran, told me to go back to taking the lexapro in the mornings (and to tell my GP she said so), and I was given more frova pills for migraines since I keep having "not quite enough" of it. Plus she told me about pain treatment options for my hip that my GP never has mentioned. Hopefully I'll feel more normal again in a day or two.

Thanks, womaninChrist. After hours and hours of searching for information, I've discovered that it's practically hopeless unless I was born into a wealthy family. I guess I will continue to search for some place in this country that doesn't cater to the well-off. I have no problem with moving out of state, in fact...that would make me very happy since my state offers zip to help you out. I'm certainly not looking for a hand-out. I just want to learn how to live independently, and get away from this setting where I'm getting worse as each year passes by. There are too many cracks for people like me to fall through, and it depresses me that after all of this time...this is the best we can do.

everythingat- have you checked with the Salvation Army to see if they have any resources or suggestions? I'm starting a new medication tonight. I was warned that it would knock me out. That appears to be an understatement! I took it about 30 minutes ago. I hope I can keep my eyes open long enough to get my pjs on. Night y'all!

Some more good news. I am now involved in a bible study, went for the 2nd time this last Friday. One of my old friends Eric and his brother got saved, so that is awesome. He is the one that invited me to the bible study. The guy that leads our bible study has a wife who is bi-polar so he understands a bit about what I am going through. Guys in the group had issues with alcohol in the past and they are supporting me to not drink alcohol. I haven't drank since about the 29th of July. This is a great fun group of people, having good times and studying God's word. Also a praise this week is that my old girlfriend is talking to me again. I missed her so much. I thank Jesus for all this stuff going on. God is so good!

Be in prayer for me. I leave Wednesday to visit my mom for a few days. It's always a hard time for me emotionally.

Here is a story for you guys to show the competency of Social Security. Last week I got a phone call from the Disability Determination office asking me a lot of strange questions about my glasses. Such as, "When you do drive, do you crash into things?" I thought that was weird, but didn't think much of it. The Saturday after that, I got a note from the post office telling me that Social Security sent me a letter and I would have to go to pick it up. The people didn't even pay for postage. No stamps or anything. So I wasted money on gas that I didn't have today to pick it up. I open the letter to see that I was denied. That was frustrating, but this is what made it worse. They typed on the letter that I was applying for schizophrenia and blindness. What? I'm not blind! This is all because on the form it said to check the box if you wear glasses, so I did. And now I'm apparently blind. That's why the guy called me last week, and when he found out I wasn't blind...they immediately denied me. The lousy people didn't even spell the name of my street right. How am I supposed to trust them with my future if they can't remember to put stamps on the letter, can't spell the name of my street right, and can't even read their own forms properly to know that I'm not blind?

Been there, done that with the SSA. I had an evaluator the first time that spent all sorts of energy arguing with me about various jobs they were just sure I could do - and I kept having to explain why I couldn't (like that 8 hours in the heat & sun wasn't an option on my meds or that my knees didn't allow such physical labor), but they never found the energy to follow up with my pdoc for my medical records or to rerequest them. I requested a reconsideration and hired an attorney (had to because the SSA wouldn't tell me anything, not even that I could request reconsideration - much less that the sole reason for the denial came down to the medical records they'd never received from my pdoc). In the process, I do believe that I - and those who'd volunteered to send in statements about how I was doing - filed the same forms at least 5 or 6 times. Any way, seems like most people get denied the first time (often the second too) and frequently on rather silly reasons. Don't hesitate to file for reconsideration or appeal or whatever is appropriate and to seek legal representation if you feel you need it. I wish you the best and I'll be praying for you.

Thanks for your prayers, womaninChrist. I'm still in shock that someone put on the form that I was applying for blindness. I've read these few pages a hundred times today. I figure I'm going to go ahead and get a lawyer, as much as I don't want to. I've already filled out the appeal forms, tomorrow I'm going to call and force them to take "blindness" off. The guy who talked to me last week must have thought I was such a phony. He sounded so surprised when he learned I don't really have a problem with my vision.

I'm convinced from my experience and what I've seen happen way too many times (like them thinking were blind for wearing glasses) that they exist to deny at first and make this a waiting game as if only the truly disabled will persist past the first few rounds... Some of what I've seen/heard is just absurd - and painful when it's happening to you personally. Did you ever find anything out about assisted living housing? What about anything else that might help while you wait on a decision?

revbob4God, I'm going to call and make an appointment with a lawyer tomorrow. I took today to relax, so I didn't call the Disability Determination office. I've been pushed beyond my limits lately. We're losing our house soon, I'm going to be homeless...yeah, I needed a day to myself. I've been checking out places for assisted living, it's gotten a bit more complicated now that I have to get a lawyer to deal with disability. agapetos, that's exactly what I'm going to do.

Tomorrow I leave for my mom's. I'll be there until late Sunday. She and I really don't do well together, but it's the only time that I really get to visit with my son and he'll be going off to college in a few weeks. Please pray for the situation.
