Today was my birthday. I'm 24, in case anyone is wondering. I'm extremely nervous, because I have an appointment with a lawyer about disability Wednesday. Here's to hoping it goes well. The next few years of my life depends on it.

Thanks for the birthday wishes. I got a letter from disability today, I guess they've decided to accept my appeal because they've made an appointment for me with a psychiatrist. I typed on the appeal form that I wanted it since there were errors, being that they somehow thought I was applying for blindness. The appointment with a lawyer is tomorrow...I'm thinking it will go well, since they've started the appeal process.

Well, I have a lawyer. He was appalled that I've been diagnosed for four years now and haven't been able to get any treatment. Which I haven't. Even the mental health clinics turned me down, they said I was out of their league. Here's the bad news. He said it's very likely I will be turned down for my appeal, and that we'll have to get a hearing. But the hearing could take up to 26 months. So, I could be 27 before I get disability. Some more good news is that I will be able to get Medicaid if they deny me this time. At least I'll finally get treatment, and then the evidence will be pretty solid that I'm disabled. Unfortunately, I could be a 27 year-old single schizophrenic living with my mom. It feels like a prison sentence. Possibly two more years of sitting on my bum doing nothing but watching television and reading countless books. Maybe I can get out on good behavior.

I know what you mean Everythingat. Keep in mind though that part of the attorney's job is to warn you about the worst case possibilities - there's still a chance you could get approved on appeal. Though he's right that if it goes to hearing, it takes a very long time to get one with things as they now stand... Then again, other than somehow being rather lucky in some ways - I got approved on appeal (so the process took about a year total) and found docs willing to treat me on the grounds that I'd simply applied for SSI/SSDI and Medicaid - I've been through a lot of the same stuff (it's been 5 years since I started showing obvious symptoms of my mental health problems and I'm just recently beginning to get competent psychiatric help and one of the problems involved was figuring out that part of my apparently mental health problems wasn't really psychiatric but neurological, something most of my psychiatrists didn't want to even consider as possible despite repeated failure of standard treatments for the presumed illness)... So there are people out here that know and understand what you're going through and yeah, it sure gets tiring and stressful quite often.

I went for my blood tests today. They only had the paperwork from my MD and not my pdoc, so she'll have to request that I have another appt. next week.

I have 3 doctor appointments this week and could use some prayer about that. Also having some relationship problems that effects me deeply :( .

Me too! I didn't ask them to pray for me, I asked them to pray for my neighbor. I have no idea why they chose to pray for me too.

Perhaps it was because you had contacted them again after not doing so for several months.
I don't agree with what they said in the prayer they prayed. IMO it was wrong (ie inaccurate and unknowledgeable).
However, I do know people who will go somewhere for a period of time and then stop but every so often make contact with people for one reason or another.
Unfortunately, when we ask people to pray for us, we cannot determine what or how they are going to pray. Part of the reason I rarely ask people here (forums, not this thread) to pray is that you don't actually know what people are going to pray and say in response.
When I ask people to pray, I know who to ask and know they will pray in a way that will benefit me.

Sorry to hear tht happened to you, Roberta. Unfortunately, it's common enough (at least IME) that I've learned to let very, very few Christians who know my name know about my mental health problems - because so many will immediately presume we have spiritual problems upto and including demonic possession. Blech.

I agree with what agapetos said. I only ask people to pray for situations who I know is going to understand them.
I've definitely been where you're at, DenimDiva/Roberta. More than once. It gets tiring having people constantly suggest that you're demonically possessed or just letting the devil "have his way" with your life. Although specifically hearing them say "bipolars think they don't need God" is new. That astonishes me. If you're going to pray for the illness, you should at least know what the illness actually is. Regardless, God is certainly merciful...that's more proof for that.

Some people are just ignorant and need to be avoided. Their quick religious judgments say more about their own spiritual state than the one they're pointing fingers at.

Thankfully we have a Mediator in Jesus who can and does act as our intercessor in the prayers of the saints and causes it all to come out right.

I stopped going to this church a few months ago. However, I have remained on their prayer team. A few months back, I asked the pastor to pray anonymously for me about my bipolar and panic attacks. Please pray that satan's grip will be released from our sister Roberta and that she will come back to our church, get back on her medications and get her life right with God once again.
1- The pastor knows that I am attending another church and why and that I am attending another church. I left quietly.
2- The prayer team leader knows that I am attending another church.
3- I take my medications according to my pdoc's instructions, I know I'm not God and I know that I need Him.
4- I still go to church, just not that church.

I have a thread that discusses one of the issues as to why I decided to leave that church. I'll be glad to link it if anyone is interested in reading it.

Thanks for the hugs and the encouragement.
The only reasons that I shared my mental health issues with the pastor were because I was undergoing some medicinal changes and because the pastor was a professional therapist before he became a pastor. He runs an ad on TV that states he has personally experienced drug and alcohol problems and has been through a divorce and is remarried and that he has professional experience as a therapist and counsels people from all over the county.
Anyway, I've been without a vehicle and forced to walk everywhere for almost a week now. That includes a 4.8 mile (round trip) walk to church twice a week. I can't say it's done anything for my weight yet, but it's been good for my mental health. The only down side is that on my walk to church, I have to walk by this pastor's house. I get nervous that I'm going to walk by one day and see him in the front yard and possibly have to talk to him. So far that hasn't happened. I guess if it does happen, I'll keep things as short and courteous as I can.

He may have counselled people from all over the country ~ but does that mean they come to him or now live near where he lives or does he go to them? In reality, you probably don't need to have counselled that many people to claim that you've counselled people from all over the country ~ someone in the north, the south, the midwest... make sense?
If he's that good, he shouldn't need to be advertising!

Roberta, you may not be losing weight according to the scales, but go by how your clothes fit, how you feel after each walk and how long it takes you (not suggesting you try going faster each time, just do what is right for you). I'm guessing it's still warm there, make sure you have plenty of water before, during and after your walk.

Due to the heat, I've been wearing really baggy clothes. The walking makes me feel good.
