Status: offline 		Yes, I live about 10 minutes drive from the beach. Not far at all.

I can't imagine having a winter Christmas. Probably the same as you having a summer Christmas. Hot weather, salads, cold meats etc.

It is all a matter of what you are used to. So I guess when you see all the American Christmas movie and all the winter and Christmas songs you probably shake your head and go "Yeah, right"

On some of our Christmas cards, you get pictures of Santa in his red shorts, white singlet and flipflops standing on the beach with a cool drink. LOL. I personally don't like Santa cards, but it's just slightly different from what you'd get over there.

Status: offline 		In the last few years I have met people who head south for the winter. I will admit it is tempting. Kansas has all four seasons, but at times I would like to live in warm weather year round.

Handling a nailgun would have been too much I think. I was even leery of picking up a hammer.

Oh, and Gary, if you ever use the eyelipsees (y'know, where you end a sentance with the ...'s), be sure to ues four dots. If you use the correct three, it drives Shar-Mar batty!

Uhm, y'all are what drives me batty.

BUT!!! Speaking of ellipses (that's plural for ellipsis . . . as I'm sure y'all are already aware), I was thinking about you the other day, Mr. LN. A client / friend and I were almost getting into an argument over the proper usage of those dots. He had brought me a project and didn't like how I had corrected his ellipses (placement, number of dots, etc.).

He later called me up and told me that he had found out I was right. Well, gee, imagine that!

Status: offline 		Trish, an ellipsis is a series of 3 dots separating words, most often used to denote an omission of words (such as in a quote). Also, used as seques to connect similar thoughts.

The most-absolutely-correct number of dots to use is 3 . . . not 4, like a certain Ben Bugsy around here likes to do.

And technically, the dots do not have spaces between them (word...word)

But for emphasis and artistic freedom here in the threads . . . I like to put a space between each dot.

I guess it was a couple of years ago that Ben and I "had it out" here in the forums about this wonderful piece of punctuation.

Oh the wonderful memories one can acquire by hanging out here!

I'm just trying to scrape myself off the ceiling. I did the colour blindness test in community and scared myself stupid. I didn't see until after I'd done it that it's not for the weak hearted. I jumped, and John and Joan came running. Apparently Joan was 9/10ths asleep, but she's wide awake now. I didn't know it had sound effects to it.

I just got home from church and a womens basketball game, so I am checking the forums.

Ben, I don't know for sure how I broke my little toe because I don't remember it happening. The story is , I had a roomate (there were 8 of us total) who awoke one morning about 5:30 am. He went to the kitchen and saw my stereo in the back yard just outside the door. He ran back to the bedrooma and woke us up. I must have jammed my foot againt the door frame, but I don's remember it.

We all ran around looking for what was taken and trying to find the buglers (not too bright, I know). The roomate who had gotten up grabbed a machette (we had named the house Machette Manor) and ran outside wearing only gym shorts and pajama tops and went up to some poor woman waiting for a bus on the corner and asked if she had seen any body unusual.

We surmized that my roomate alarm clock scared the buglers off while they were in the house and they left before they were finished. All they got away with was $7.00 cash.

Anyway after about an hour of the excitement, I realized that my little toe was throbbing in pain.

Good thing the lady at the bus stop didn't think your room mate was strange... . running around in his underwear waving a weapon!

Status: offline 		Hmmmm...that sounds like a 'hood I lived in once.

A car dropped off a young man at the neighbor's house across the street. Immediately a police car turned on the siren and lights. The man runs not into the house he was headed towards but runs across the street INTO OUR YARD, jumps our fence, sprints to the back of the yard and hops over our back fence too! My heart was beating so fast and my husband slept right through it until I woke him to tell him a man was jumping our fence. Helicoptors swarmed our neighborhood for hours trying to find the CAR THEIF!!!! That house turned into a drug dealing supermarket later.

And another time we were sleeping with our windows open and this man starts talking to me through the screen while I am half out of it. He was asking me where one of his friends lived. My DH wakes up and says, "Just who are you talking too?" And then he began to yell at the the guy to get out of our yard. I remember I was just trying to be nice but afterwards I figured HE was not going to be nice to me!

Whew! GOD certainly watched over me while we lived there. And then there was the time the loose rotweiller... okay, I'll stop here!

That was a dicey neighborhood to live in. Another time two of my roomates were robbed in the street. Again no one was hurt.

Status: offline 		My house was robbed once, when I was 7. But we weren't home and no one was hurt. I think we were the only house in the neighborhood that was hit
