Do any of the rest of you "old timers" happen suddenly upon a date, stand there and think about it for awhile, wondering why the date seems significant to you? I don't do that about 9/11 yet, but I have begun doing it about January 22nd (which is personally VERY embarrassing, but I remember after about a minute), November 22nd, December 7th, and November 11th.

hmmm... it's rare, but I happened suddenly upon something the other day, I just can't remember what it was.

Interesting, so did I and, even though I can't recall the details, I believe it was the same thing. Great Minds and all that.

I just noticed you joined in 2005. I'm usually much better with details than that, but I seem more prone to doze off than when I was in my 30s.

Well, the great thing about being Rip Van Winkle is having this cool grey beard, having people be mildly amused by your odd loyalty to King George, and you get to be a New Member all over again while knowing who everyone is and how all the secret buttons work.

Did any of you have fears of God sending you to the jungles of Africa to be a misssionary when you were a teen? Maybe it was just certain denominations, but I was really scared that would happen. What 16 yr. old girl wants to go to the jungle? I look back and laugh .

I don't know without looking it up.

"Wonder Dog" reminds me though, one of my favorite shirts as a kid was an Underdog T-Shirt.

It's been a while, but I gotta comment on this.

I was afraid the Lord would send me to be a pastor's wife. LOL! No lie.

I wanted to marry the pastors son at one time during my youth.

How do you pass on biblical information with out sounding proud? I'm learning so much more being at a Reformed church than I have on any other denomination and it all makes sense to me. How do you share that without getting in peoples faces?

Oh! Me, too! When my present husband and I started getting serious, the first thing I wanted to know was whether he had such intentions. Deal breaker!

Just my 2 cents.

Trust God; pray a lot for God's guidance in speaking with others. Allow the Holy Spirit to open doors and to open eyes and ears. Speak with both grace and truth, probably heavy on the grace.

And, keep the heart of salvation centered on the redemption we have in Christ. So when you share with others (especially other brothers and sisters in Christ), share from the heart how God is growing you in His Word. I haven't had anyone dispute with me when I share from the heart like that.

My last date was with one of my pastor's daughters. We'll have been wed 38 years on February 6.

She had said she'd never marry a preacher or anyone in the military. We were married for all but my first 10 months out of 9+ years in the Navy.

She endured the military--hopefully you aren't planning to be a preacher in your retirement (however, God seems to have a funny sense of humor that way, so it could happen!).

I think she chose well, Euty.

Facebook is an amazing place. I just connected with a woman that I graduated with in 1970. I think about her dad every so often because he was one of my favorite teachers. In addition to that, he was the DJ for our local teen call-in radio program, something that I didn't know until I was in his English class. I was a little dazed to discover that the DJ we called and who played all the latest music was the father of one of my classmates. Until then, it never occurred to me that anyone my dad's age could be cool.

One of the many reasons he was on of my favorite teachers was that he shared my philosophy that homework shouldn't be necessary if the teacher was teaching. Whenever he gave us an assignment, he also gave us time to complete it in class. I learned more English in his class than any other. And I still use some of his spelling gimmicks to spell words like separate (there's "a rat" in the word), assassination (donkey, donkey, I nation), and occur (Oh, si, si you are [in a Mexican accent]). His memory tricks sounded silly, but they really worked for me.

I never got to talk with him after high school because he passed away while I was in the Navy.
