any joyce meyer fans here? what is right wrong with her>

thenewcynthia -> RE: joyce meyer (4/29/2005 9:07:40 AM)

I like her. I know the "heresy police" sometimes lump her in there with a bunch of others who are way out on that limb but I've never seen anything that caused me alarm. I think sometimes it's just easier to dismiss her as WOF than to listen to what she says because she really doesn't pull any punches. I think the difference with her and someone like Joel Osteen (but moreso her) and a lot of the WOF guys (ie Kenneth Copeland, Benny Hinn) is that they teach what we can get from God and she teaches what God expects of us. I think there may be a similar end-goal but the freedom and victory that Joyce Meyer preaches isn't something we can just "claim", we have to take some responsibility and be obedient to God's Word and then His promises are ours.

My main problems with Joyce stem from our different backgrounds and struggles. I believe God uses folks who haven't...quite...overcome every bit of leftover junk in their lives (the alternative belief would be to insist on absolute perfection in the pulpit or in any person calling themselves a Christian, thereby disqualifying every one of us and causing every demon to collapse in laughter) and as mine are occasionally obvious to others, I can sense junk in Joyce's old life that isn't completely gone. Do I value her as a Sister? You betcha. Even have one of her tape series two feet away from me. You go, girl!

humbleinspirit -> RE: joyce meyer (4/29/2005 10:47:09 PM)

I enjoy listening to her until she goes into the prosperity stuff.

relady -> RE: joyce meyer (4/30/2005 9:36:15 PM)

I have in the past found a lot good in what and how she teaches. However, I have stopped supporting her ministry because I don't support anyone who won't make the company financial records available. She's no longer an "open book", has built a huge compound that she & her family live in, and is living a rather extravagant lifestyle pretty much on the ministry's dollar. I don't like that and don't support it.

yeshua_seven -> RE: joyce meyer (5/1/2005 12:01:51 AM)

I prefer not to be like the Pharisees who sat and waited for Jesus to make a mistake. Everyone makes mistakes in their teachings, and we need to look at the positive stuff. I have no negativity to say on her or many others. Except for the people who are way off, which there are such preachers out there.

gracewalk -> RE: joyce meyer (5/1/2005 2:02:51 PM)

I don't know what you want to hear..

She is a word of faith millionair who uses her gift to communicate to enrich herself materially as all wof teachers do..

Can she teach.. you bet
is she effective.. you bet.
is she funny.. you bet..
Can she present truth and practical Christianity.. yes she can..

But I can't endorse anyone who uses Jesus to enrich themselves as the WOF community does.. To stand there and say to you, that you are giving to the work of the Lord when so much of what comes in goes directly to plush facilities, personal mansions or huge ranches and personal luxuries..

Now we can overlook that because she is so engaging.. well you can and many do as they open up there wallet to buy her her next fur coat, all in the name of the Lord..

Again.. if you can set that aside from the radio teacher you hear.. do so.. I can't.

Oh, we dare not touch the Lord's anoited.. come on folks.. we don't come to Christ to think and grow rich..

I guess I have stepped in it now..

later

You are Exactly right about her...I agree tooo!!!!!!!!! I could go on about that one. Right along with many others and one who is usually on that same channel with her. He's young, has a beautiful wife, is pushing for a bigger compaq center and preaches EXCELLENCE which is defined in bigger, better homes and jobs, money...materialism... Can you name him? He didn't have to crawl his way up.

rapturefish -> RE: joyce meyer (5/2/2005 10:09:29 AM)

She is a christian. She is a woman who came from a terrible legacy of losers and God transformed her life and the life of others. She has a ministry that is changing lives around the world and she is involved in all sorts of ministries that help abused women, countries in need and prison ministries.

I see no good reason for saying a person cannot live well when their ministry is doing well. If a person can be rich in any other profession, then why not this one? It makes no sense that a highly successful ministry means she should live on meagre wages just to look like someone of "integrity". Integrity doesn't mean living on scraps while the congregation of the world gets rich off her ministry. Integrity is doing right by God at all times and it doesn't come with a requirement of socioeconomic status.

She is a woman who says it like it is and respects the word and the Spirit in the life of christians. Amen to all the fruit that is coming out of that.

renewed_life -> RE: joyce meyer (5/2/2005 10:44:30 AM)

I thought I just saw this post elsewhere? I used to really like her a lot, she always said something that seemed directly aimed at me. And she always made me laugh. The last year or so for some reason she just rubs me the wrong way. I don't know what the reasons are that others don't like her, but in my case it's because it seems to be all about the money. Also, she seems a teeny bit prideful. I realize that she is using herself as an example of what God can do in our lives, but it just seems like she talks about herself a lot.

stateofgrace -> RE: joyce meyer (5/2/2005 11:18:19 AM)

Look...I don't have any problem with people in ministry being compensated (income) at a professional level. But there is a difference between that and the outlandish lifestyle adopted by some TV preachers.

I have relatives that live near where Jim and Tammy Baker used to live during the height of the PTL days. Was there any reason on earth why those people needed, as an example, gold faucets on all their fixtures?

The fact that Joyce Meyer and her ministry won't make financial statements available is very, very troubling.

Renewed, you did see this in Womens, but it was moved and then I had asked for it to be archived because I wasn't interested in bashing anyone. For those interested in sharing how she has helped you, feel free to PM me. Thanks.

I like Joyce. She does not pretend to have overcome all her "baggage." In fact, she
recently told that she finds the initmate act of marriage STILL very difficult for her, after these years of marriage, because of the abuse. But, she still pursues loving her husband
as best she can. She does not make excuses for wrong behavior and is harder on herself than others. Thats the big diff.

mixster -> RE: joyce meyer (5/3/2005 1:35:12 PM)

she has nothing I want to hear and I sure would not send her a dime to add to her millions. Besides women are not supposed to be in that position according to the Word!!!!

truth=life -> RE: joyce meyer (5/3/2005 2:37:56 PM)

Has anyone seen the lavish home she lives in with just her husband?. She has also purchased lavish homes for her children according to something I read, but that is just heresay so I do not know whether to believe that. Her home is quite a spread for just two people who evidently are gone all the time. She has even confessed her own stinginess on national television one night I was viewing a program of her, when she decided in a restaurant she wasn't being served appropriately and told her husband she just thought she shouldn't leave a tip...He, on the other hand rebuked her and left one anyway. So,,,she confessed but is that repentence for her? Whatever it is that is going to be between her and God so I just don't worry about it and really do not watch her anymore or endorse her since there is a question in my mind about where the money goes...

I personally would be very hesitant to go into ministry as a career for those reasons.

Yes. I feel so sad for the ones who are in poverty and struggling to just make their utility bills and rent and who watch and support him for they must be feeling a heaviness on their heart thinking God's favor surely is not with them and they must be doing something wrong because they are tithing all they have, only to just give up one day on God.

I have watched his programs and Joyce Meyers long enough for myself to know that there comes a point when one has to say enough is enough. Their programs are good for encouragment for the viewing time alotted but are far from what I think is needed for the long haul. They have gotten wealthy from televising it.

I call it the blind leading the blind. That is a sign of a false prophet to me. That is my feeling about it. It is heartbreaking to think that too...I thank God for my own personal relationship with Jesus Christ and that acquiring wealth and prosperity in this world is not what it is all about. I am quite satisfied with my humble life and quite grateful for the many things God has provided for me and those are all the needs which is what God promises us. Pslam 23: The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want... That is one of my prayers when I go to bed at night, just for the needs that were met that day I thank him and for the ones for the next day that I know he is going to provide...And believe me when I say this I do not live a lavish life or ever care to...Far far from it...

Here is a picture of her family compound. Because the ministry pays for all this this they don't have to pay income tax on the money first like most of us have to when we buy a home and pay people to cut the grass.

It is sooooooo heartbreaking to me....Just think about this,,,,if Joyce Meyers family held private worship service at their compound and had weapons to protect themselves would they be considered occult and dangerous as was publicized about David Koresh? I personally do not believe he was a criminal or any of the charges made against him and his group. Not trying to get off the joyce meyer's thread but it was just a thought when you mentioned the word "compound". Isn't it funny how one little word can open up a conversation or debate or even an argument? Just seems to me all he and those folks there wanted to do was worship God and be left alone to do so but someone would not let them.

Soxfan -> RE: joyce meyer (5/4/2005 9:11:05 AM)

From Joyce Meyer's 1991 booklet The Most Important Decision You Will Ever Make, an evangelistic work aimed at nonbelievers, she resounds the Word-Faith view of Christ’s atonement:

"During that time He entered hell, where you and I deserved to go (legally) because of our sin. He paid the price there ... no plan was too extreme ... Jesus paid on the cross and in hell” (pg. 35, underlining in the original).

“God rose up from His throne and said to demon powers tormenting the sinless Son of God, ‘Let Him go.’ Then the resurrection power of Almighty God went through hell and filled Jesus ... He was resurrected from the dead — the first born-again man” (pg. 36, underlining in the original).

“His spirit went to hell because that is where we deserved to go. Remember in the very beginning of this, I said, ‘When you die, only your body dies. The rest of you, your soul and spirit, goes either to heaven or hell’” (ibid.).

“There is no hope of anyone going to heaven unless they believe this truth I am presenting. You cannot go to heaven unless you believe with all your heart that Jesus took your place in hell” (ibid.).

“Jesus went to hell for you” (pg. 38, underlining in the original).

Meyer teaches the classic “Born-Again Jesus” gospel that has been taught by Copeland, Kenneth Hagin, Fred Price, John Jacobs, Charles Capps, Benny Hinn and Jan Crouch, to name a few. It’s usually presented under the guise of “revelation knowledge,” given by the Holy Spirit and grounded in Scripture. However, this gospel does not stand up under biblical scrutiny.

This error was pointed out to Joyce Meyer, and subsequent publications by her ministry did not contain this.

I do not to listen to those who mix truth with extra-biblical supposition or "personal revelation".

Jam 3:11-12 Does a spring pour forth from the same opening both fresh and salt water? (12) Can a fig tree, my brothers, bear olives, or a grapevine produce figs? Neither can a salt pond yield fresh water.

Or those who openely disregard biblical direction.

1Ti 2:11-14 Let a woman learn quietly with all submissiveness. (12) I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet. (13) For Adam was formed first, then Eve; (14) and Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and became a transgressor.
