You all are so fantastic! As for software, I am using Jasc's PSP 9. I did try using the backfill feature - but I left the sunglasses their original color instead of manipulating them. Also, these photos were taken with my Sony CyberShot instead of my Canon XT SLR... what a difference it makes!

Ezri, no need to take the photo down - that's way cool what you did with her sunglasses! Wow! Thanks for walking me through the process you used - there are similar tools in PSP that should let me achieve that same effect.

The way I manipulated the photo in my avatar was making two layers of the original picture - (I got it the way I wanted to as far as corrections before I duplicated it into two layers), then I changed the bottom layer to b&w, went back to the top layer and used the eraser tool to erase all but her sunglasses, then I merged the two layers.

On the tongue photo, I simply used some correction tools to try to make the photo look better, since the original was pretty shaded.

Today, there should be some more photo opportunities, as I have family down and like to take pictures of Pais playing with my little cousin, who is 2. I'll have to go back to the other photos I took yesterday and play with them to see what all I can achieve following the advice you all gave me. Thank you so much!

Melissa, I chose the tongue one cause it absolutely screamed CUTE! Glad you like the sunglasses- hope you get some super shots today!

I feel naked today- I carry my cameras with me EVERYWHERE! it has gotten to the point where folks just know/expect that I will be in the background snapping. Well My girls SWIPED my cameras! They are at a friends graduation today and i had to be at the dentist with child #5.

Thing is that the girls were helping with a song the graduate is doing so they were going in early and one of them mentioned yesterday to the grad on the phone that I wasn't coming--- in passing you now. like they were happy to be free of their brothers for an afternoon. They hung up and less than 5 minutes later she called back freaking out asking if one of them could swipe the camera and take photos for her. hehehehe!

No one had ASKED me to photograph the event- they just ASSUMED because that *IS* what I do.

So today they get stuck with my two assistants. I hope they like edgy angles and contrasty lighting because that is what my #2 does. She loves it. I am gonna drag her into the dark room with me this summer. #1 does more straight forward stuff but I doubt she will get the camera from #2. She has Honey's 4mp digital and the 35mm film with 10-12 shots on it.

My #2 likes Adobe too- See what she did to herself in this shot

She can be dangerous too- Here is a shot of all 6 kids at the beach- I took the shot #2 *ahem* enhanced it

I hate being without my camera - which is why I have my Sony CyberShot in addition to my dSLR... I feel sorry for ya feeling nekkid today and being without one. You have my utmost sympathy! I hope your "assistants" get some wonderful shots, though. Those pics are awesome - the light lasers was a fantastic idea! You know, I've never developed pics of my own - I've always taken them to get printed. Even if I enhance photos, I simply burn them to a CD and then take that in to print them off of, lol. I think developing in a dark room would be really awesome though. Thanks for thinking the shot of Pais with her sunglasses was cute - I wanted some playful shots of her, and that one was honestly my favorite, next to her "attitude" poses.

i really need to get out and take photos soon...its been a couple weeks since i did anything. i was thinking of going up to san francisco (~1.5 hours from where i live) and getting some urban/street shots, that would be fun.

I drove past a barn today....

Someday I will actually stop you know.

STOP when I see something inspirational.

FORGET that I have 6 screaming hungry kids in the van

FORGET that I have 3 cars behind me

FORGET that I have a house to clean for guests

WHY?

Because the sun will only be there for -->*<-- that long

Because the flowers will only be yellow for -->*<-- that long

Because the wind will only be blowing the blossoms that directions for -->*<-- long

Because the farmer next door sill set his goats out on the dandelions before the combination is perfect again.

Because "tomorrow" the barn may be gone....

Because it makes me sick I did not stop.

Really-
Lovely-
Tin wrapped barn
With a red roof
Set behind a field of luscious tall yellow dandelions
5:15pm--- low soft sweet warm sunlight pulling out the shadows in the ridges in the tin siding and roof.

I need to stop bashing myself right?

Yeah- Stopping now.

Gosh, I didn't have all of those excuses when I drove past the mother horse and foal with the morning sun on their backs.... I had to get to work on time! That is all. Perhaps I should have stopped.

Careful Ezri,,, all that camera equipment is a trap. One reason I have a midsize camera is not only because of the price. If I had to lug alot of equipment around, I'd be less likely to lug equipment around at all. I learned this when I was the one taking nice photos with film and everyone else was running around freely with empty hands.

But then again, sometimes ya just need to have the monster camera for the shoot.

*snickers* Lotsa gear? Me? Lug it around? NO WAY!

I leave it in the van.

hehehehe-

Okay So I carry the dSLR with me everywhere. I have scaled back to not carrying the flash as most of the shots I wanna take are outside and natural light trumps a flash every time. I NEEDED a flash yesterday- we were inside and the one time I was gonna ask another mom for copies because I had no flash(she has done so to me several times) she had forgotten her camera sooooo. I set the camera on a table and set the self timer framed each shot then pressed the button and PRAYED that the graduate that was speaking did not make any sudden movements at the end of the 10 seconds. one of them ALWAYS did.

I have my canon back pack I can load the dSLR and 2 film bodies in as well as lenses for all three the film I need for the film bodies + back up batteries... thew only thing is that the k1000 takes the space I had the flash unit in so it is now in a neoprene bag attached to the exterior. I took this set up with me to the Fiber Fest and it worked out wonderfully. I probably need to just leave the cheap tripod in the van all the time and carry the canon bag with me with the flash IN IT as the dSLR would be in the small ammo bag with my wallet. Problem then is that I have to lug it out to the van and back into the house even if I don't use it.

Tooney- think of it as weight training....

tripod presses

Lens curls

that barn shot? it would have been awesome on a tripod with the aperture stopped way down so that the flowers and the barn were all in focus. OoooAhhhh.

the lensbaby is a fun little lens. one of the folks on Flickr said that it was the tool you needed to make your expensive digitals into a Holga... hehehehe! another review I read on amazon said that it was a CHEAP intro to the tater cellar level of tilt shift technology. Shots like this one and this one are fun reasons to give this baby a try. that and 150.00 is WAY less than the near 2000.00 for the tilt-shift lenses.

the lensbaby should be fun. that tunnel vision effect they give might get old after a while though. i've looked at some of the canon ts-e lenses, and theyre $1,150 for the 45mm and 90mm. some neat uses for tilt-shift are making real life shots look miniature, like maybe a city street looking like its a scale model. this guy on flickr has some nice examples:
