And, did you notice that it was shot with a 7.5mpx Casio... not an expensive SLR. An inexpensive camera in the hands of a creative mind can produce wonderful images. In this case, it is the 'collection' and narrative that provides that special touch.

You might want to try this first. Giottos Rocket Air Blower
Then, I'd check the dpreview.com forums for your particular camera to see what others are doing about sensor cleaning safely.

I had thought of offering some challenges on Crosswalkers on flickr. The latest one is cemetery angels but ya know, making portraits like those you fixed up for the kids is a great idea, too. I've done that with plants but not teens.

Got a halfway decent close-up of a bee yesterday at the local botanical gardens. Its wings are in fairly good focus. Definitely need to take my tripod next time. And I accidentally had my camera set at ISO 1600. Doh! Fortunately the noise from the XSi isn't too bad.

The XSi is the least noisy camera I've ever owned. But, even so, Noiseware is an amazing product.

Printed on a 4X6, noise is not even noticeable. Impressive for 1600 ISO.
Probably would have been clearer had I used a tripod. But I think it's still a good shot. My mother in law (here visiting) loves it!

I got paid 40.00 for my ministry shots. My reward to myself for actually letting go of some photos is:
A custom camera strap!!!
I got to chose 2 fabrics and am getting the strap an extra 8 inches long.
Fabric #1 here
Fabric #2 here <-- the Pink Coriander in that shot, not the paisley back side.
I am soooo excited!
A strap that will be long enough and be PRETTY!

if there is plenty of light, then the noise will be very minimal. the noise in ISO1600 will usually show up more in low light situations. but even then, my 30D handles the noise very well.
really the only kind of noise that bothers me is the chroma noise. luminance noise looks more natural, like a "texture" to the photo. theres an easy way in photoshop to fix chroma noise. first i duplicate the background layer, and choose noise > median on the top layer (through one of the menus, i forget), and set the pixels to about 10. could go less if 10 is too strong. then choose the blending mode between layers to "color", and the chroma noise should be significantly reduced or eliminated, leaving only luminance noise behind. this takes maybe 15 seconds, depending on how fast of a clicker you are.
just be careful, because this could de-color some sharp colored corners of thin colored lines in the photo (i.e. signs with text). when this happens in my photos, i'll try to un-select those areas, so the median blurring misses those areas.

Gotta do the "tricks" use frozen butter but make sure the edges are soft enough to look warm and melty, for instance.
Do you have an example we could play with?

Well it is to me too. I'm not (yet?) a pro photographer.
But really, that's dirt cheap by pro lighting standards. You can *easily* spend thousands of dollars for lighting sets.
Of course it depends on whether you want to photograph food as a hobby or to make money. If a hobby, sure it's probably expensive. If to make money, it's an investment that needs to be made.
I actually got that Fotodiox set for video work, but it's proving nice for photography too.

they are going to Sturgis next month with 
hehehehe! So I call him back in 6-8 weeks(he is in the middle of the season you know) THEN I take my negs to Class in August and beg my Prof to show me how to scan them into the computer and drop them onto my external hard drive so I can order some re-prints!
