what do you guys think about Christian artist selling their music? Do you think it's a gift from God and it should not be commercialized or do you think that artist should make a living and use their gift to the best of their abilities?

As an artist, I would say YES, Christian artists should be able to sell their music. Why are Christians always looking for handouts in the name of Christ? Why shouldn't Christian artists be allowed to make a living at what they do?

And not just because of our income, but making and manufacturing CDs is a VERY expensive process. Are you also opposed to Chrisitans being able to pay the bills that go along with making music?

However, I have always made copies of my music available to folks who were obviously unable to pay, so people, please don't level any of the tired "you're-only-in-it-for-the-money" accusations.

Sorry, but questions like this get me going...

Yes. Musicians need to make money to live on too, ya know.

ETA: Sure, their music is a ministry too. But pastors are paid. Why shouldn't Christian musicians make money off of what they do?

Artists have to make a living somehow. They need to be able to support themselves and their household. So I don't see why Christian Artists should be hassled for selling their product.

Just a question though, is the guitarists corner thread open only to guiar players? or is it ok to talk about bass gear as well?

It's open to bass players as far as I'm concerned. I love playing bass.

Back to OP: I see this all the time but it still befuddles me. Where did we ever get the concept that artists shouldn't be able to make a living from their art? It ain't in the scriptures. Solomon set up musicians to be paid for their service at the temple.

Like tafkam, this notion just drives me nuts! Okay, I'll admit, it ain't a long drive, but nevertheless.

I haven't had any talented Christian construction workers build me a house for free lately.
