Ok, the tile is gone in the basement and we are down to the original concrete floor which is in pretty good condition. There are some settling cracks in it, but I know I can buy that stuff you just pour in them and they fill in, or the concrete patch in a tube. BUT now what I need to know is what to do next. I always start things without a plan.
We want to paint the floor with that paint kind of like you use in a garage, but they make one for basements also. It is beige or white and you have this confetti like stuff that you spread over it when it is wet to give it a bit of design and hide flaws in the floor.
I know I need to remove some adhesive from parts of the floor, but other than that, I am not sure if I need to prep the floor or just paint it. Any suggestions?

I'd TSP it and prime it first.

what about filling the cracks, and then covering the floor with Saltillo tile? I just love that sort of tile and it is etremely durable.

Well, I have been doing a bit of research and they have this stuff that is liquid. You pour it into small cracks and it fills them in like concrete would. So I am going to do that. Then I was going to use the paint with the little flecks that is like what you would use in a garage, but this guy at Farm and Fleet said there is a better paint that is like the coating they used to put on gym floors and you still use the flecks to hide any blemishes in the floor, but it is more durable if the kids are going to be skating on it which they do plan on doing.
It seems inexpensive and easy, but we have to get this stuff that cleans and etches the floor first. So I am going to do that, but you are only supposed to do 250 sq feet at a time because while it is not toxic, there are fumes and you are supposed to paint 24 hours after you use the cleaner so that the floor is in prime condition to absorb the paint.
I have never heard of that tile mrsrevbob. Is it like a ceramic?
